THE SIMPSONS hit its 200th episodes in its landmark ninth season, and the series showed no signs of slowing down. The Simpsons--ineffectual (but lovable) patriarch Homer, voice-of-reason mother Marge, rebellious son Bart, brilliant daughter Lisa, and quiet baby Maggie--live in the city of Springfield, surrounded by both the regular cast of characters and the stellar guest stars fans have come to expect. Guest voices are always a highlight, and the ninth season's eclectic roster includes Martin Sheen, U2, and Stephen Wright. This volume features "The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons," "Das Bus," and, of course, the annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode.

    Season Nine Rocks....Sort Of

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 22, 2006

Pros: This box set has all of the episodes from Season 9. All of the episodes contain audio commentary from Matt Groening and co. on all twenty-five episodes.

Cons: Season Nine waa ok. It wasn't outstanding. Only certain episodes were memorable.

America's original favorite dysfunctional family has returned yet again on DVD. Season Nine of The Simpsons had its memorable moments in episodes such as The Principal and The Pauper, Lisa The Skeptic, Das Bus, and The Last Temptation of Krust. T...here were also lesser remembered episodes, as well, in Bart Carny, Bart Star, Lisa's Sax, and The Catridge Family. There are other episodes that are average at best, but not standout in this season. But the extras of the box set more than make up for the at least mostly average season. Every episode has audio commentary from series creator Matt Groening and his staff of writers. Fourteen out of the twenty-five total episodes contain deleted scenes. And there are some hidden Easter Eggs here and there. There are some animation featurettes for those who are more interested in how the stores were drawn out after the scripts were completed. There are also some funny psuedo-Rolling Stone covers/post cards added with the episode guide for the box set. The cards were basically made to go along with the theme of th box set. The DVD's were made to look like CD's. That is one of the intersting factors of this box set. Now, fans can see what episodes are on each disc without having to go back and consult the episode guide since they are lined out on each disc. One of the best feature of this box set is something that will please true fans of The Simpsons. At the very start of the first disc, there is a small psuedo-trailer for the Simpsons movie. It is another promotional tool for the movie, obviously, but it gives fans yet another glimpse into the twisted minds that have come up with one of the most anticipated movies in probably years. So while Season Nine may not have been a standout season for The Simpsons, it is still an enjoyable addition to any Simpsons fan's library. Read more Less
