Marilyn Monroe's marriage to Joe Dimaggio ended in divorce, and this movie had a bit to do with it. That blowing of the skirt scene in New York City was too much for strong, silent Joe to handle, resulting in a spat between the couple back in their ...hotel room. For the time it was made, this comedy was quite risky, but innocently playful enough for most adults to understand and take lightly. Marilyn was stuck with the nickname Dumb Blonde after her role as The Girl (she never had a name in the film), and for years after she would desperately try to shed the image of a nitwit. (Monroe was actually very, very bright) Great humor, catchy script, and a great cast, The Seven Year Itch was one of Marilyn's best performances in a comedic role, and it was dubbed a classic years ago.
