The Rock Rocks!
Pros: Fun story, lots of swordplay
Cons: Marginal acting
The prequel to The Mummy and The Mummy returns isn't really a prequel at all. It isn't even set in the same area, unless the same hemisphere counts. Nevertheless, it's got supernatural action, lots of fighting, buff bodies, and a beautiful woman. All the ingredients of a good time in front of the big screen, right? Right!
Eye Candy in the form of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Michael Duncan exists for the women, and Kelly Hu is at her gorgeous best for the men. There's lots of intense action in the fight scenes - plenty of fire, lots of swordfights, and acrobatic stunts.
Memnon (Steven Duncan), an evil king, holds the beautiful sorceress (Kelly Hu) captive for her - guess what - ability to foresee the future. Mathayus (The Rock) is an assassin sent to kill Memnon, but is thwarted by the need to save a child. Since he can't seem to assassinate Memnon, he kidnaps the sorceress instead and of course Memnon gets more than a little upset at him. The rest of the movie is the forces of good (Mathayus/The Rock) versus the forces of evil (Memnon/Steven Brand).
The swordfights are very well choreographed. In fact, the fight scenes are so well done it really makes up for the fact that the movie has virtually no plot and what plot it does have is at odds with The Mummy Returns, which it is supposed to be a prequel for.
It's a good bad movie, quite enjoyable if one isn't expecting too much and can be satisfied with it for what it is: a fun time.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoThe a way cool movie

I personally think that the movie of The Scorpion King was great. I especially love the part of Mathayus fight the evil ruler Menon. he final battle, and the ensuing explosion are awesome.

I enjoyed both the mummy and mummy returns and thought this movie was one of the worst films EVER. I wish I could give zero stars.
The acting was very bad, almost comic. The film looked grainy and low budget. And the plot had true promise but never delivered.

This movie was so "overblown." I thought this might be worth watching, but it did not compare to The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. In other words, this movie really bites! Don't waste your time or money...

This movie is an insult to the Mummy movies. Brainless action followed by a lame plot= bad movie. I don't even consider this whatsoever as a prequel to Mummy. Crappy, for a lack of better words to describe this movie.

Saw this movie 3 times this summer & cannot wait for it to come out on DVD next month! I am no WWF fan but I had to admit this was awesome & the Rock is a supersexy action hero! I thought this would be a typical movie my husband would like since he likes action flicks & etc. But I really enjoyed it. And took some of my friends the other two times. I was disappointed that there was no mention of the mummy series but I guess the time was much earlier or something like that. Hope to see the Rock in more great movies.

I wasn't really that hyped to see the scorpion king, i love the mummy series, but not too into the wrestling thing. but i saw it because it looked like a good story with lots of @ss kickin'. so i arrived at the movies with my friends, got some soda and candy and sat down expecting a brainlessly fun ride. and thats just what i got! but i was surprised to see how entertaining The Rock was, i thought it would just be like WWF in ancient egypt, but he was actually a good actor. the movie was funny and had lots of cool fight scenes. i highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes the mummy series, action movies, or even ancient egypt. this was highly enjoyable and id say its a good time for the whole family. except maybe great grandma and the baby.

As a movie overall, it was good. Good acting by both the Rock and Kelly Hu (was a real looker). Maybe some didn't like it because it did not relate to Mummy 2, unless what happen to Scorpion King was much later maybe for second movie. Anyway I enjoyed it though. Good for and DVD collection.

How and why was this in no relation to the Scorp. King mentioned and so dramatised in the mummy returns??? Yes it had nothing to do with it and in know way even refered to it yet some how he becomes this demigod????Go fetch a bone you morones!! I dream of genie reruns were better (except for the females in both shows). Where was the plot really? This was the most drawn out fight seen ever!!! Sucks!!!!

Didn't expect much and that's what I got. The Rock did as good as expected in a movie of this type. The story was typical but I can't buy the Scorpion King as a heroe. Maybe if I saw this movie before The Mummy 2 but that's not what happened. What was Michael Clarke doing in a movie like this is beyond me! Maybe he needed extra change or something. Of course he played his role well (he is a very good actor) but the question remains. Kelly Hu gives me hope in her performance and I hope she does a better job in the up coming DareDevil movie (if she's still part of the cast). I know that Mr. Duncan will. Over all, at least The Scorpion King was than Conan (and it's sequels) but it has nothing on The Mummy and that's a shame.

this movie did had its weak and strong points. They tried to put comedy and action in one and some of the jokes were lame. Overall, the movie was pretty impressive although we will never know why the "Scorpion King" turned evil in Mummy returns. This film is worth watching in a way. I found this film to be even more entertaining that Episode 2 attack of the duds.

Director Chuck Russells "The Scorpion King" was magnificant in the action packed catagory.
Not only was it action packed....but it had a bit of humor and romance. The Rock proved in
this movie that he is not only a pretty face,
and a pro wrestler,he can act. And they could
not have picked a more beautiful heroin than
Kelly Hu. This movie is worth watching, 4 stars
