Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife Etheline (Anjelica Huston) had three children -- Chas (Ben Stiller), Richie (Luke Wilson) and Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow) -- and then they separated. Chas started buying real estate in his early teens and seemed to have an almost preternatural understanding of international finance. Margot was a playwright and received a Braverman Grant of fifty thousand dollars in the ninth grade. Richie was a junior champion tennis player and won the U.S. Nationals three years in a row. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbuams was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure, and disaster. Most of this was generally considered to be their father's fault. "THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS" tells the story of a family's sudden, unexpected reunion one recent winter.

    The Royal Tenenbaums

This is a perfect movie. It needs to be seen twice. Once to laugh, and a second time to be moved. The character development is superb, and the way in which the film is shot is beautiful. The use of the color pink gives the film a very "cool" feel. Muc...h detail in this film. Many things in the background that the viewer will notice in each additional viewing. Director and co-writer:Wes Anderson makes a great transition from an offbeat comedy to a drama, and then to a more heartwarming comedy. It leaves the viewer feeling warm and fuzzy. Read more Less

Fantastic. Every bit as good as Rushmor

The artwork covering Owen Wilson's character's apartment walls is worth the rental fee. Many people evidently missed some of the admittedly subtle humor and judged the film negatively as a result. There's no accounting for taste I suppose. With th...at said, I suggest these people 1) watch it again (closely this time), and if they still dont like it, 2) go rent something more your speed like "Little Nicky" or "Chairman of the Board" and leave the rest of us to bask in the magnificence of this film.
