The Rock
Pros: Ed Harris, Sean Connery, and Nick Cage
Cons: The plot.
My wife and I decided to check out this movie after visiting Alcatraz Island earlier this year. The FBI looks bad in this one as San Francisco is threatened with a chemical attack. The Rock was decent with good performances by Connery, Cage, and Harris. They provided funny moments while acting their way through a cheesy plot. It was strange seeing Navy Seals fighting the Marine Corps.

Pros: This just rocked case closed
Cons: It was a lil to short and the ending wasn't as great as I'd hoped
I thougth Nicholas Cage did a wonderful job and I still feel Sean Connery did such an excellent job that he should have been cast as Magneto in the X-Men movie!

This is probally the best war/action movie ever. I dont know how the critics chose between it and one of the best movies Ever Apollo 13. It starts with a little background on Stanly Goodspeed(Nick Cage)as a chemical expert then we move on to Sean Connery playing a prisioner who once escaped from Alactraz. He and Cage must go into Alactraz and stop a curruped general and some 40 rennegade marines armed with M16s with granade launchers,fully automatic weapons,and sniper rifles. This is supurb acting by Connery and Cage, but Cage came away with the Oscar. Also you get to see the generals soft side and this part makes him look very nobel. If you enjoyed this movie you would also enjoy Saving Private Ryan, The Thin Red Line, Platoon, Behind Enemy Lines,Black Hawk Down,and Enemy at the Gates. Parents should be advised
that The Rock and all the movies I have mentioned have intense violence and language but all of them are GREAT movies!Was this review helpful? Yes - NoGreat!
I saw this movie for the first time when I was 11, and now that Im 17, it made me a Connery fan! This movie has it all, and its definately worth your money.

Plot: There's a hostage situation on Alcatraz, a group of renegade Marines have seized the island and 81 tourists, and now the only person to break out, must break back in to save them. The San Francisco bay area is at stake for a chemical weapon strike, and the only people who can save the city are a 60 year old highly trained SAS operative and an FBI chemical weapons specialist.
Review: First I have to say I really liked "the Rock" because it was different, this film doesn't follow the overused formula for a flick of its genre. It is not another movie trying to copy "Die Hard". The villian is not even that bad of a guy, General Hummell just wants compensation for the death of Reconnaissance Marines under his command. The government still won't give in to his demands so he and a platoon of Force Recon Marines take Alcatraz Island under siege. Surely his demands couldn't be too steep and he ends up not even executing any civilians. I hope I haven't revealed too much, I don't want to give away this movie for those who haven't seen it. This film has a moving story and great scenes of action to go with it. And oh yeah, there is no unrealistic face-off at the end between the bad guy and the good guy in some wierd place. It you feel up to a classic action-thriller, this is probably one of the first movies I suggest.

What a movie, Well first of all in 1996 THE ROCK would have been a MaTrIx to remeber and copy out of. Well the Cast is BRILLIANT Ed Harris (Academy Award Noms. Best actor) is a bad guy with his SO SO Crazy NAVY patrol when he hold hosages, hostages from a TOUR. So they find some MISSILSE to Launch very CHEAMICALY POISEND GAS. That said Harris takes control of the ROCK a Dugen a island of the coast and near The SAN FRANSICO BAY. Seeing as they want there money like any movie (RANSOM) Nichols Cage (Academy Award Winner- Leaving Las Vegas) plays in THE ROCK a FBI Miisile Gas Expert. leavs PREGNANT Girl Friend and joins the mission to recover these MISSILEs not to be launched to The SAN FRANSICO Bay. Well Smart and Old SEAN CONNERY who has been escaping from PRISON ALOT! I mean THE ROCK is a SMART THRILLER!!!! Connery and Cage go on the Mission only to discover they fill in a trap and all TEAM has benn Killed! Who's up to the duty to save the World? Cage and Connery who do a great team of Action Packed Partners. Well the movie well cant find anything BAD about it. Its SMART-PROVOKING-INTELLIGE

The Rock's music is the best suited soundtrack of any movie and also the action and special effects were brilliantly done also the acting was brilliant also stars a lesser know actors from Star Trek Ds9=Tony Todd as Captain Darrow and Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage also Ed Harris perfectly cast!

I have over 2 dozen action dvd movies. This by far is my favorite movie. The thing I like about this movie is that you start feeling bad for ed harris(the villian) at the end now that is a good movie. Only other movie that comes close is the new one I got...which is gladiator

with much overrated Nicholas Gage and largely predictable plot and action. However, Connery shows that he is not an actor but a STAR and this is what makes Rinjiro's 3 stars, not the irritating and unnecessary shootings and explosions. The rooftop escape scene was hilariously well done.
