One of the best movies of recent years. It's a visually stunning account of the early space race, full of incident, drama and tremendous acting. Though the entire cast are excellent, Ed Harris as the angelic John Glenn & Fred Ward as the gruff Gus Grissom are especially good. Maybe the scenes featuring Sam Shepard as Chuck Yeager are overlong, but otherwise a flawless piece of entertainment!. Buy the book by Tom Wolfe too!.

This movie shows what it was like to be a part of the Original Seven Astronauts. From pushing the "edge of the envelope" through training and finally into flight, this movie shows things from the point of view of the astronauts, test pilots, and wives involved. Although I thought some things were remiss (Deke and Al's loss of flight status, car racing, and various 'gotchas') It was a great movie with serious issues and various camic reliefs. I highly reccommend this movie, even for people who aren't interested in the early space program.

Don't be fooled that this film is over 16 years old. This movie is timeless and keeps it's age very well. Young people will get a pretty good idea about what went on in the early days of our nations space program. I recommend this film to anyone with 'early space program' intrests.
