    My goodness this movie really does go out to sea. The effects, YES, they are brilliant, but the human drama is so water logged its only emotion it can wring from you is one of hilarity. I clung to my lifeboat while my friends fell laughing all around... me, I refused to buy into their cynicism until near the end when Mark Whalberg is delivering what appears to be a rendition of Jim Morrison's bad poetry to his girl while about to be destoyed by a tidal wave. A perfect storm dosnt make up for an abysmal screenplay. I was as disapointed as the captain of the Titanic. Blub blub blub... Read more Less

    The book is rather dry and non-engaging, but does explain things quite well: weather, the sea, sword fishing, etc. But the movie does a better job of engaging the viewer and bringing the characters to life.
