The Outlaw Josey Wales
Pros: Pretty scenery
Cons: Slow, slow, slow
It's hard to imagine a boring Clint Eastwood film, but this is it. Add to that one filming goof after another (too many, really, to count) and you get a film that wandered, staggered, and then fell dead. Very, very disappointing.

This is my favorite Eastwood role and western of all time. Even better than Unforgiven. The action, story, and memorable dialoge between the characters are top notch. They just don't make westerns as good as this one anymore. The DVD transfer was a little on the dark side, but the extra features was nice.

Although I agree with Leonard Maltin that this movie is overlong and occasionally tedious, I might have to pick it as superior to The Unforgiven.
This is the story of a man made into a stone cold killer by the butchery of his family during the Kansas Missouri border wars, and his subsequent recovery dispite continual pursuit.
He is the only living witness to a surrender turned into mass murder of a renegade confederate band of marauders.
The only thing more bloody or savage than this movie is the stuff that really happened during this border war.
The occasional maudlin, sentimental. and grossly simplistic scenes are overcome by legitimate action scenes, a wonderful set of character actors, real indians portraying indians, and a pretty authenic feeling.
It really makes you ask the question: If a man really didn't care, if he was all burnt out inside, and if he got enough practice shooting people, how good at it would he become?
Ignore the picture to the right. The whole point of the movie is the absence of emotion from the main character.
