The Others
Pros: Brilliant Outcome
Cons: Inconsistent sound
I could watch this movie over and over again, actually I had to to hear missed words. We spent most of our time the entire movie turning it up to hear what the actors were saying or down to avoid blasting the stereo off the wall.
Who ever edited the sound-actually didnt.
Worst sound consistency ever. The voice scene in the bedroom with her husband couldnt be heard at all unless you turn the volume up to maximum. Followed by normal talk so loud it distorted the speakers. My $4500 sound system didnt help.
That was the only thing that entirely ruined the movie and made watching it become work.
If not for that, this is one of the best movies ever.
I wish someone would fix the sound issue and reissue a new DVD with improved sound- I would buy it again and throw the other one in the trash.

Pros: Kidman delivers another fantastic performance of a neurotic mother in a surprise suspense.
Cons: It didn't make much sense to me why Grace's husband didn't stay given the surprise ending.
Nicole Kidman plays Grace a neurotic mother of two, Anne and Nicholas. They live without their father, who never returned from WWII, in a secluded island mansion where all the curtains must be closed and doors shut (and locked) to protect her children from light. They are supposed to have a deadly allergy of some sort to exposure to light.
Grace has put out an ad for helpers around the house since her former staff abandoned their jobs. So when three strangers, a nanny, a gardener, and a mute servant girl show up at the door, Grace is clueless that they haven't answered her ad. Shortly after their arrival, the nanny admits that they used to live at the mansion before and had just dropped by to see it again.
The problems begin to fester when Anne starts talking to herself and claims there is another boy in the house who only she can hear and see. Then the film becomes a haunted-house suspense with surprise curves that come at me one right after the next. It's appropriately rated PG-13 because this film could scare children into hearing voices and seeing ghosts! m_d.md.m_dWas this review helpful? Yes - NoRe-hashed and dissapointing

Cons: She really isn't that hot
The Others has a very good title, because when you are at the movie store, thats what you should be renting.Im tired of suspense/super-natural "thrillers" that don't deliver.Add the fact that it is an amalgomation of other crappy movies then set it in some pasty English castle added to craposity.

I was totally surprised how scary this movie was. Well written and the acting made me almost forget how good looking Nicole Kidman is, almost. I had to watch it twice to see what I missed.

If you like ghost stories then check this one out, it kept me guessing until the end. I couldn't figure out what was going to happen next and I as always liked Kidman--she is hot, even when she plays a character such as this one.

This movie was a great movie! The first time I saw it, I fell asleep in it because I was really tired. But the 2nd time, it was a lot better because you understand the little hints in it, that you can't get the first time. And the 3rd time I saw it, I got it even more. I saw it 3 1/2 times... I think it's one of my favorite movies! Nicole Kidman is PERFECT for the part!!

OK I will bet money that the screenwriter wrote this movie as soon as he got home from seeing " The Sixth Sense ". Anyone who saw that movie knows this was a rip off. Hollywood needs to bury that "twist-ending". The first time you are shocked, the second time, you can't believe they actually did it again. Copycats. The movie is not in the least bit scary as soom reviews would lead you to believe. Boring unclimatic cinema crap.

This movie was AWESOME!!! I loved it. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be though, but it was a really great movie anywayz!!! Nicole Kidman was PERFECT and so were the children and everyone else! If you havent seen it then u really should cuz it is SUPER-DUPER!!! Peace & GOD BLESS!

This movie was REALLY bad. Just another typical over-hyped movie. I kept waiting for the good parts to happen. By the time the end came it was too late. Don't bother renting this you'll REALLY be disappointed!! I'll save you the $$$ and tell you Nicole Kidman and her kids end up being the ghosts of the house. You don't find that out until the END. Kinda like s Sixth Sence movie, but REALLY bad.

The ending is well worth the uninspiring first half of the movie. As it picks up pace, you see the mother who was at first calm and controlling but by the end you see her unravel. It's an interesting look at a little known disease as well as the psyche of a woman isolated within her small world.

I loved this movie! The music played such a big part on your reaction. Very suspenseful. I never would have guessed the ending. I would watch it over and over again. This is the best horror/suspence movie I've seen.

Nicole was great, in fact, I thought she was better in this movie than movie she won the academy award for. She made you believe her situation with her family and the ending was a surprise much in the recent tradition of of "The 6th sense" and "Unbreakable". The effects were great and the story was great. It makes you wonder about the possible world of the other side.

i don't care what anyone says.......the others is by far one of the best horror movies i have seen in my day...it is not like one of those pathetic teen thrillers...the others was worth the time.....the twist at the end was ingenious.......it is a must see!!

A good movie is like a good book.Tell a good story I wont take my eyes off the screen,or stop turning pages.As the author helps you paint a picture of their charactors,the actor in a movie gives you the depth needed to sustain your interest in that character and how much you care about them.
No actress does that better today than Nicholl Kidman.You cant take your eyes off her when she's on the screen and she's in about 90% of the scenes. This movie moved way to slow.The story behind was good,but good night I was trying my best not to fall asleep.If you have insomnia put this movie in,and I promise you wont have trouble sleeping.Sorry I thought this was going to be a good movie,boy was I wrong!

This is one of the best ghost stories I have ever watched in my life! I sat in stunned silence for about five minutes after the movie ended. The acting is superb and the setting is just creepy enough to make every twist in turn in this movie even scarier. This is a MUST for any movie fan!

I haven't seen a movie in a long time that gave me such a thrill with it's twist and turns. Not the scariest movie I've ever seen, but definitely one of the best with the surprise twist. I truely didn't see that coming and I'm usually pretty good at predicting that sort of thing. Loved the way they got me!!!

I absolutely LOVE a good ghost story....provided it has a solid plot and doesn't have gore for pure shock value. This is very reminescent of horror movies of bygone eras......if it were black and white, you'd swear it was from the 40's or 50's! The acting is superb and it is clever and keeps you guessing until the end. You really get drawn into the story and is a marvelous one! A MUST own DVD!!
