    The Funeral

    The Funeral is a great look at Japanese cultutre. In this film, Chizuko's (Miyamoto) father dies, and the modern day family is thrust into planning a traditonal Buddhist/Shinto funeral. It also is very funny to those who share the Japanese ironic se...nse of humour. But, It is emotionally involving, as we see the contrast beweeen old and new in modern day Japan. Just as an example, as the family is planning for the funeral, they watch a VHS video on the traditonal way to prepare for, and comport at a Japanese funeral. If this isn't funny to you skip the movie, but I reccomend this to anyone who has an intrest in Japanese culture or appreciates irony. Read more Less
