Don't get me wrong, the special effects, the set design and the characters were breathtaking, but the characterizations were all bad.
I liked the first one better.
How in the world does one go from being a sweet and innocent, introverted kid, to becoming an annoying loudmouth that no one can stand? I mean, he was best friends with Atrayu in the first one, but in this sequel, he constantly bickers with him until this little buffalo hunter gets killed.
And the bird was dumb. Every other line was `wish for this.' `Wish for that.' The thing that was worse was that Bastian never got wise to the scheme.
And why on earth was he going through all that trouble just so he could jump off the high board at the swimming pool? Isn't that a little excessive just to solve that tiny problem? If I was the director, I'd push him off the high board myself, or kick him in the rear to get him going. It would make a much shorter film.
The actor totally ruined the film, especially the punchline that destroyed the evil witch. "Yeah, Zorana...I wish that you would have a heart." Isn't that like a pot calling a kettle black? ...
