    A stunning and very frightening look at the evil of brainwashing, set against the background of the Korean War. It was John Frankenheimer's masterpiece, with FrankSinatra showing he was at least as good an actor as he wasa singer.     Frankenheimer's magnum opus is hypnotic and unnerving and the performances are top-notch. One of the few films that deserves to be on AFI's 100 list.

    An old style, pure story, original movie that captured thespirit of the cold war perfectly. See it and try to understand how people felt at the time. None of the thousands of sequels since then come close. Frank Sinatra was a real actor. Nevergot cr...edit for that. Read more Less

    A timeless cold war classic, this movie holds up as a gripping story even if you've never heard of the cold war. If you're a Frank Sinatra fan, stand by to be dazzled! If you're not, stand by to be converted. This movie was (and should have been) co...nsidered a breakthrough at the time, but for some reason, it was stifled for over 30 years!!! It's now available at major video chains. Rent it tomorrow!!!A combination of classic Twilight Zone episodes (it's black and white) and a non-comedic Dr. Strangelove, it stars Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, and Angela Lansbury, this movie wreaks of cold war hysteria. We're not sure who the enemy really is, but we know it's bad. It might be Russia, China, or the American military-industrial complex. It involves dreams, brainwashing, and early 1960s politics.Does it sound like I'm being elusive? I certainly am. The only way to enjoy this movies is to be teased into watching it. Then, afterward, you'll ask, "Wow, where has this thing been hiding?!?!"As the millenium draws to a close, this movie would be very high on all the "Best of.." lists, if only more of the younger generation had seen it. Do yourself a big favor and join the short list of people who can answer "yes" to the question, "Have you ever seen the Manchurian Candidate?" Read more Less

    in impossible to find film of late 1950s, "The Ceremony". (with Vera Miles). Set in Tangier, 1958, just as the autonomous tax free city was to join Morocco, gangster Sean (Harvey) is captured after a robbery and sentenced to death. His chick (Miles) ...offers herself as reward to his brother to make the rescue, which succeeds just before execution. However the brother is caught, and is mistakenly executed in his place because in the mid of the prison officials the Ceremony must go on. Very well done character drama, showind conflict of motives and truly blind justice. Read more Less
