Chilling and Surreal
, June 19, 2000Frankenheimer's magnum opus is hypnotic and unnerving and the performances are top-notch. One of the few films that deserves to be on AFI's 100 list.

Pros: Filming in black and white; creative camera angles
Cons: None
A stunning and very frightening look at the evil of
brainwashing, set against the background of the Korean
War. It was John Frankenheimer's masterpiece, with Frank
Sinatra showing he was at least as good an actor as he was
a singer. Not to be confused with the left-wing, politically
correct remake of 2004, which was absolutely dreadful. ...
