WONDERFUL MUSIC

I really enjoyed the music in this film!!!!!!!
It was amazing, my only regret is that I can't find the sheet music for it! If anybody knows where to find it I would love to get it!

great movie...original concept

this movie is unlike any other you'll see...the concept is so ridiculous that it's pure genius...tim roth proves that he has star power - his screen presence is incredible...the feelings of all the characters comes right through the television, and there is no over-acting in this movie; just outstanding performances from tim roth all the way down to the gentleman who plays the used music goods store owner...and clarence williams' brief appearance in the movie easily steals the show, as the battle between he and tim roth is one of the greatest scenes in any movie, anywhere...

seen in a long time. It is about a baby born
on this cruise ship and lives there his entire
life. It is about music, Enio Morricone's
best to date. Get the CD also. It is a
"feel good" movie.

A Must for Musicians & Music Lovers

As with the other reviewers, I truly look forward to the release of this movie on home video, and it will be the major reason for me to finally buy a DVD player! While the entire movie is excellent, there are 2 scenes in the movie that in my mind make it a stand-out movie. I'm a pianist myself (I started playing at age 4), and I make my living as a full time musician, so I may have a unique take on the movie. The first wonderful scene is pure cinema; an incredible "riding with the piano" scene where 1900 helps his trumpet playing friend deal with sea-sickness. This entire scene is a wonderful, magic spellbinding slice of cinematic genius. The other scene that is so noteworthy is the incredible "dual" between 1900 and Jelly Roll Morton. Clarence Williams,III is perfect as an arrogant, pompous ass musician, and the scene builds slowly and beautifully to an unbelievable climax: one that all musicians will laugh out loud at! I truly believe that the only reason this movie is not known about by very many people is that it has no gratuitous sex and/or violence. This is a sad commentary on the "bottom line" for the general movie going public. However, if you love intelligent movie making, and don't mind suspending "believability" occasionally, you WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE. P.S. For some reason, this movie is listed twice, under release dates of both 1998 and 1999. For more reviews, including a duplicate of this review, see the 1999 listing of the same title.

Worthy of a Lord!

This movie has all the elements of a classic. It is well written, has excellent music, the characters are interesting, and the world is well defined. I think one of the most interesting points of this movie is the cinematography. The angles and effects add a unique flavor to the story without overshadowing it. It is perfect mix!
