Pros: Harvey Keitel,
Cons: did not find any
Probably the best biography of Christ ever in TV. Every time I am watching this movie, I get the thrills. Masterpiece!!!!
I think this movie is so misunderstood among most Christians, and most of them never saw the film. They think it's all about Jesus having sex with Mary Magdilian. The fact is there is no sex. Jesus was just tempted with the idea of a "normal" family life with Mary and children.
But the true focus of this film is Jesus the man, not Jesus the Messiah. Although he was the Messiah, he was also a man. The gospel of Matthew even talks about when Jesus went to the desert for 40 days and was tempted by Satan. This movies focus is on the heavey burden Jesus had to carry and the temptations he had to fight off. Ultimately you see what sets Jesus above us all: he is able to not give in to temptation.
But give a little credit to N.Kazantzakis for wrighting the novel wich after all Scorcese used so well to create that masterpiece
A MUST-SEE. Powerful!!!
This is probably the best portrayal of Christ's
last days that I have ever seen in film.
It shows Jesus foremost as a man, stumbling
through his mission with all the doubts
and uncertainties any human would have,
desperately wanting to full fill the burden
God cast upon him. Some parts of this film
visually resembled moving paintings.
The next time you watch this film look at the faces of the crowds lining the streets when Jesus is carrying his cross. This is the work of genius. The ending is absolutely magnificent, when Jesus finally realizes that He has to beg God to let Him die on the cross.
I especially enjoyed Christ's supposed meeting with Paul of Tarsus, and doubt that it would have been much different if it did happen.
It is really a shame that so many 'christians'
are so idiotic and close minded as to have
boycotted BlockBusters for carrying this film, and boycotted the film when it opened WITHOUT
having seen it. The Last Temptation of Christ
is more religious then any of the orthodox
cartoons preceeding it.
"The Last Temptation of Christ" is, without a doubt, Martin Scorsese's masterpiece and in my opinion the most powerful film I've ever witnessed. As an NYU film school alumni I've seen many films in my lifetime, but nothing comes close to this one. Once having viewed it, my life was transformed forever. I feel sorry for anyone who cannot understand or comprehend it's incredible power. I'm glad that I do.
This movie is not based on the scriptures, but this does not detract from the effectiveness of the film. In spite of this the movie includes very powerful enactments of some of the most well known events. The cinematography is excellent, and I found myself drawn to the humanity of the characters. Keitel's portrayal of Judas is compelling, as are those of Saul and John the Baptist. A must see!
it's too bad this film was made...it's a piece of trash. it's good it never won any oscars or anything.
If you're reading this review, you've probably seen it. If a movie can change a person, this movie changed me. You've heard of the "living Christ". Now see him as a vulnerable, searching, hoping and ultimately compassionate god in the flesh. Watch this movie and you'll be searching the web looking for reviews, opinions and anything on this movie.
after seeing it, i really am not sure what all the negative fuss was about. every aspect was done very well.
Most beautiful portrayal of Jesus..I began to feel closer to Jesus after seeing this movie..Most profoundly spiritually uplifting Music by Peter Gabriel. Spiritually magnetizing movie--It is so profoundly inspiring to see how Jesus overcame the universal struggle between soul and flesh and resurrected his consciousness! This movie captures Jesus's faith and trust in God so honestly that it inspires my soul to deepen my trust in God also. Thank you Martin Scorsese! Thank you Peter Gabriel!
The Last Temptation of Christ triumps as a witness to the trials and tribulations of Jesus Christ as he went from boyhood to manhood and was designated, by his "father" the almighty God in heaven, to suffer and die on the cross for our sins. Teptation after tempation, he endured the suffering and then upon the cross, Jesus was witnessed to a new temptation. That of being a free man with a wife and children. Yet, with that as a prospect, Jesus still died for us all. So, Jesus, Thank You!
