    Pros: Gut-wrenching, Non-stop Laughs

Cons: You might just split your sides laughing!

I have watched The Jerk so many times that I wore out my original VHS tape, bought a second VHS copy, & now have the DVD version. I know this movie by heart. I mean ALL of it, too!!! Steve Martin has "something" that just draws a person to ...watch. The story is about his upbringing in a poor, black family from the back woods. It is a hysterical account of how naive we are when we set out for the world. He faces tons of obstacles and gets put into some pretty ridiculous situations that turn him into The Jerk. Pros: It's on DVD! & It's The Jerk!

Cons: The DVD shows it's flaws.

Steve Martin in one of his best early movies.
    It's a classic!

    Absolutely Hilarious!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 28, 2001

"I was born a poor black child." Now if you hear that come out of that white man holding a chair on the screen and you don't laugh, there is something wroing with you. This movie is absoutly unforgetable. A true classic.

    Brilliant Film

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 30, 2001

I could argue that Steve Martin has never achieved this level of creativity in a film since. May be that is judging him too harshly (LA Story and Bowfinger both came close). The originality and ridculousness of this film make it a main stayer as one o...f the funniest films ever. Navin R Johnson (played by Steve) has to be one of the most likeable comedy icons on film.My only criticism is the features listed on the DVD. As someone who will often buy DVDs on the strength of their features, this is one that I will avoid until it is (hopefully) re-released with a commentary from Steve Martin. If you haven't seen it - take a look somehow! Classic Comedy

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 24, 2000

The Jerk has indeed held up well over time. A "dumb" pure enjoyment film, it still packs a lot of heart, something missing from modern films in the same vein. Steve Martin is brilliant in his role, capturing the spirit of what made him a successful ...comedian in the first place. Stand-out performances from the supporting cast, especially veterans Bill Macy and M. Emmett Walsh. A great film. Read more Less

    Stupid, but Genius

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 26, 1999

Sweet plus innocent equal the jerk. A comedy of classic status has endured for twenty years as a favorite among a vast array of audiences. Sometimes this movie is referred to as stupid, but do not let this confuse you. It is a movie about a stupid p...erson, but the story, characters, and feeling of this movie are pure genius! Definitely my favorite comedy of all time. Read more Less
