    Pros: Everything

    Cons: Nothing

    I first saw this film when I was in college (1968) and really needed a laugh. This has remained one of my favorites ever since. The quality of the DVD is fantastic, although I had to exchange my first one due to a bad audio track.Like "The Russi...ans are Coming..the Russians are Coming" and "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation," "The Great Race" is a true delight and genuinely funny.     For as long as I can remember, only 2 movies have reigned at the top of my BEST COMEDIES list, and this is one of them. (The other is "The Court Jester" with Danny Kaye.) Although you can catch this gem on t.v., get the DVD so you don't have to put ...up with commercials and you don't get ANYTHING cut out, as the WHOLE movie is great!     The Great Race has been a favorite movie of mine since I was a child. Jack Lemmon and Peter Falk provide classic comedy moments that you can't help but laugh at. This is a classic film that is worth watching over and over again.

    The Bad Guy (Lemmon) is really baaad....but in a harmless and ineffectual sort of way. The Good Guy (Curtis) is really goood, but in a campy way. The interplay between these two is priceless! The musical score by Henry Mancini is first-rate, the all-...star cast is wonderful(Max [Peter Falk], Professor Fate's long-suffering sidekick is an absolute gem), and the the Great Pie Fight towards the end of the movie is worth the price of admission alone! Overall, I feel The Great Race is by far the best of the epic slapstick movies of the 1960's. Great fun! Read more Less

    This is the Benchmark of comedy films

    The Great Race is simply one of the greatest films ever made. Each character is a flawless example of the stereotype. The Villain (Jack Lemon) is extraordinary inb this part, and has the best lines in the film “He escaped with a chicken?”. Peter F...alk as the hapless henchman is simply wonderful. Tony Curtis is the personification of clean in his portrayal of the hero. And finally Natalie Wood shows her wonderful gift for comedy in the portrayal of the most beautiful suffragette I have ever seen. This is a must for any film buff library. At the time it was the most expensive film ever made and was over budget by a factor of 2. If the money was not well spent it certainly resulted in some wonderful film. Try it.     One of those so called "classic" films that are repeated ad naseum on weekends during the day for bored couch potatos and kids to watch, over and over again. Quite boring and a possible inducement for people to commit suicide.
