Synopis: The evocative poetry of the Gospel according to John comes vividly to life in director Philip Saville's sweeping, word-for-word, big screen, movie adaptation of The Good News Bible translation from the American Bible Society. Produced by Garth H. Drabinsky and Chris Chrisafis for Visual Bible International, Inc., THE GOSPEL OF JOHN is both insightful and faithful to the text, capturing the drama, depth, and urgency of John's depiction of the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.Features: The Gospel of John (2003)

Cons: 3rd DVD with the Extra features was less than exciting and a bit hard to navigate.
This 3 hour movie is a word for word presentation of The Gospel of John from The Good News Bible. I recoment it to anyone wanting a greater insight into this, the favorite of the gospels. Even a bible scholar familiar with the gospel will pick up new insights upon seeing the accurate enactment of the book which are hard to fully appreciate in reading it.
With narration only where needed, the story stands on its own through the screenplay. Bible students will find themselves repeating sections several times as they begin to understand ideas hard to visualise in reading the text.
For this reason, I highly recomend the DVD over the VHS for the ease of repeating sections and bookmarking certain sections.
The movie is well bookmarked (chaptered) with each new story for ease in replaying the sections you want. ...

Pros: The most accurate Jesus movie yet!
Cons: Paraphrased Scriptures
This is the most accurate Jesus movie yet because it is word for word from the Good News Bible. To be honest, I am not to crazy about praphrases because I feel that they kind of water down the Gospel, but I can not complain to much because this is the best Jesus movie I have seen so far... and yes, it is MUCH BETTER then The Passion Of The Christ, which I would not recommend to anyone... but that is another story.
If you don't care for paraphrases then you can always read along in your own Bible if you want. If you open up the DVD cover you will see that it lists the Scriptures for each scene! I think it is great that they did that. My only concern is that these movies about Jesus might be replacing the Bible. I geuss it just depends on how somone looks at it.
The Gospel of John is the most accurate Jesus movie yet, but if you watch it just remember that you are not watching the actual events exactly as they happend, it is simply someone elses vision of what these Biblical events may have looked like.
As accurate is this movie is, I still believe that the Bible must be our #1 source of guidence, and I believe that man can not improve on the Bible. Don't get me wrong, this is a great movie, but if you watch it please just remember your #1 source of guidence and wisdom. Enjoy the movie! ...
