    Pros: wonderful story

    Cons: poor screenplay

i think this movie has more pros then cons. i loved the friendship that was stressed among the four friends. the courage that was shown by the hero was very heart touching at the end.

I thought the movie (which did have some cliche's surfacing) was an outstanding film. Great cinematography, even the script was enjoyable. The only problem I noticed was Kate Hudson could not pull off an English accent at all.Still, immensely enterta...ining! Read more Less

    HACK 101!!!!

Not only is this an unoriginal film (its been made a few times the original in the 30's), but this is lame filmmaking at its best. I didn't like the story, the acting, the camera, the lighting, the music, or the editing. Lets start with the story. ... Well, Heath Ledger plays a character who for half the film or better ends up looking like Jesus of Nazareth walking through the desert trying to be Lawrence of Arabia and ends up getting 'courage' because he received 4 Feathers for being a wimp. Kate Hudson (the love interest) pretty much is only at the beginning and then leaves for the rest of the film until the end. Maybe she was off doing a better film. Hope so. Then we have Wes Bentley who went to the Omar Shariff school of acting, but it didn't pay off. The camera was extremely poor as well and even though the film was in SCOPE...you wouldn't know it. Every shot was very SAFE in its composition making it in scope really wasn't worth it because they shot the film so it could be played on TV, which is where this film belongs. It will probably be there soon if more people like myself start telling people about how poor it is. The film contained NO establishing shots either making it difficult to tell where they were or what was going on because every shot was a close-up or medium and once again we have the TV safe mode where its all angle/reverse angle conversations. Boring. This Director actually did ELIZABETH, but what happened here? Trying too hard? I don't get it. I honestly think that James Horner hated the film so much that he purposely messed up the music score to match the terrible cuts in the film. The music is so mis-cued and half the time Horner is trying to do TITANIC meets LAWRENCE OF ARABIA once again. I think David Lean is rolling in his grave. Even the 'look' of the film was tiresome and the poor acting and plot development made you not care what was going on. There were terrible matches on action and rediculous plot loops and holes. I can't believe something like this was released considering it had so many mistakes. Paramount better start making some wiser decisions because Robert Evans can't save its arse again...or can he? Wake up people! Its not a bad thing to analyze a film as well as enjoy it. I love film and I love to be entertained, but this film tortured me to no end! BE WARNED! Read more Less
