Denver hard rock/grunge band the Fluid was formed out of the ashes of two locally popular punk bands, with a membership of John "J.R." Robinson (vocals), James Clower (guitar), Rick Kulwicki (guitar), Matt Bischoff (bass), and Garrett Shavlik (drums). Drawing on Detroit punk (Stooges, MC5) and '70s hard rock, the Fluid debuted in 1986 with the self-produced Punch n Judy, which landed the group a deal with Sub Pop.
