Pros: One of the best fantasy military moves ever made
Cons: none
The Movie
A time travel movie about the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz getting caught in a storm and sent back to December 6th 1941. With the chance to stop the attack on pearl harbor. with Kirk Douglas and martin sheen u know it must have some quality they alone make it and interesting mix of talent
The Video
The video is better than any othe transfer of this movie before it is crisp clear no fuzz or noise. It is availble in full and widescreen. Widescreen is the only way to see the whole movie the it was shot for the theater
The audio
the 5.1 mix is stellar and really rumbles the room thru the storm and other shots. There is also a 2.0 mix which is ok but where it shines is its dtx mix it is mind blowing
The Extras
Commentary
from The Director And photographer as very boring to listen too they seem bored and uninterested in what they are saying plus get off topic alot
Theatrical Trailers
Nice to see but really bad quality
T.V. spots
More trailers
Bonus Disc if u get the 2 disc limited edition
Inteview with Associate Producer Llyod Kaufman not very interesting makes u say where are the stars who cares about producers
Interviews with jolly rogers f-14 squadron
more fluff with nothing to really do with the movie
poster and still gallery
always a pointless feature
Kirk douglas bio
the bright spot of the extras not really much to do with the movie but a great look at kik
DVD-ROM Feature
Zero Pilot Journal
more just fluff not really interesting
Pros: it's about damn time
Cons: it took too damn long for this movie to come to DVD
i loved this movie when i was 9 years old and saw it. the whole story is original and very well written. the idea was fresh and exciting. my favorite part of the movie was seeing all of the TOMCAT fighters in the air at the same time. the camera work was top-notch, especially for 24 yrs ago. i've been looking for this movie on VHS and DVD for a very long time. FINAL COUNTDOWN is a riveting SCI-FI; with an excellent cast and compelling story lines. this movie is a must have in anyone's video library.

I can't find it in any store, or Rental Shop, this is one of my top 10 best of all time, it appears distrabution has stopped, what a shame. An excellent story, very well thought out, great effects, and a super star cast.
This movie is one of Hollywoods greatest achievements. Even if you don't like "war" movies, this movie begs the question: If you could go back in time and change world history, would you? Should you?
Hey, does anyone out in cyberspace know where I can pick up a VHS copy of this great movie? Also, rumor has it that it will be coming out on DVD in the future...any comments on that? Thanks for your help. I love this movie and my favorite line when I last saw it (1980) was when Kirk Douglas said "Splash the Zeroes, I repeat Splash the Zeroes"!!! A classic!
A friend of mine has started a (no ads!) web site devoted to this movie. He keeps the latest news on the front page. You can also sign up to get notified when the VD and music come out.

Has anyone heard of the release of the DVD version yet?? If so please email me. THanks!
Watched it some 20 times and it is always a pleasure! A great movie, plenty of surprises! Could be one of the best movies with Master Kirk Douglas.
The Final Countdown
I one of the best pearl harbor movies i have ever watched, i just wished there was a way to really go back in time and kick those japs before they got us, HOOAH!
One of my favorite movies growing up, it was unavialable for years and now its coming to DVD. This is the perfect time to release this movie since the movie Pearl Harbor is coming to theatres. I only hope they release the movie widescreen and don't cheap us with the full screen, and throw in a trailer atleast. Directors comments would be a nice touch also but highly doubtfull. It also stars Martin Sheen and many other outstanding actors, this movie has some great acting in it despite being a B title. What would you do if you had the chance to turn back history...??????
This great movie is finally being released to DVD. Pacific Family Entertainment holds the rights to this movie and are going to release it to DVD this summer. I read this on the IMDB message board for this movie. I also called them today and talked to someone in sales who verified this. Their phone # is on their web page http:/

Spread it around. People keep trying to sell this movie for $100+ on ebay.
I really like this flick even tho most people havent heard of it. I love the scenes with the F-14's...in fact if I had the movie I would rewind that part a couple times. I'm another person that wishes it would make it to DVD. Its one of those movies that you catch on TNT or TBS on some random Sunday afternoon kinda thing. I also love that main title theme...I think I've seen it on Napster.
I've received numerous emails from people wondering where I found the movie. Unfortunately, I've had my VHS copy for over ten years. It was still in print when I bought it. My understanding is that the film is now unavailable. I suggest looking at "rare" or "hard to find" movie stores, either on-line or in person. I thought that with Mr. Sheen's success in The West Wing, maybe the studio would release this film again. It doesn't appear as though that is happening. Anyway, if you are looking I wish you the best of luck. Keep searching, there have to be copies out there.
This is an excellent period movie that juxtaposes two time periods vividly. This is particularly entertaining in a scene where two Japanese zeros are buzzed by a couple of F14 Tomcats and are buffetted wildly in their jetwash. The reactions of the Japanese pilots is comical. Very cool! This is definitely a guy flick.
I am a WWII buff and a sci-fi fan with roots in Hawaii. With that background, it is no wonder that I am a fan of the movie. It has a great story line and parts of the filming was done on the actual carrier. Unfortunately, the movie is not being sold, nor is the soundtrack, which I may say is very good too. You can download MP3 soundtracks by searching John Scott (artist) on Napster, however that is a poor replacement for the movie.
