Pros: You think it's going to be campy and silly
Cons: The actually is meaning in the comedic madness
I first wanted to see this film because of Milla Jovovich. Initially I'd seen her in another film, so I was curious to see how far her talent could stretch. Much to my surprise it was well worth the watch. Milla plays (LeeLoo) an intergalactic special being, that was created by the Matochiwan as an element to save the planet from evil. In the course of fulfilling her destiny, other character players Gary Oldman (Mr. Zorg) who also played Dracula in the 2004 version directed by (?), then we have Bruce Willis (?) and Chris Tucker as (Rubie Rod) an extravagantly bi-sexual outrageous character. The movie had lots of comedy scenes, the production was outstanding, as seeing the designer John Paul Gaultier designed all clothing for this film. In this film, the culprit of all the problems are these 4 stones, when activated by (leeloo) the Fifth Element, something very amazing and saving of humanity happens. There are usual shootouts, space rides and scenes enough to make the film beliable. No way can you get bored with this film. Buy it, you'll be glad you did.
Pros: fast action, funny, strong plot, great special effects
Cons: Milla Jovovich; romantic sub-plot is weak
I love this movie. It is a laugh-out-loud super ride. Gary Oldman is at once vicious, creepy and cowardly -- one more stellar performance in a steller career. Bruce Willis plays the typical brash, sarcastic hero, which he does to perfection. Chris Tucker as "Ruby Rudd" is a riot. He kept me laughing so hard I couldn't eat my pop corn. Milla Jovovich, obviously cast for her ability to look good in rubberbands, added little more to the movie than her beauty. The Fifth Element has a special place in my private collection. I've watched it many times.
Pros: Fast-Paced, Funny, Exciting
Cons: Hardly plausible
This is a fun movie, there's no better way to put it. It starts off with a bang, and hardly stops until the end. It has it all, space monsters, distant planets, futuristic NYC, explosions, and a creepy villian. Sure, you could roll your eyes at the imperfections, but you hardly have time to notice if you want to keep up. Kind of like a dumbed-down "12 Monkeys" meets a smartened-up "The Mummy".
Pros: Well put together story line
Cons: Director seemed to be lacking a little. So were the sound guys.
There are a few things that make this movie not like by people that are not mezmarized by Bruce Willis. First being that it is truely a fantasy. The setting is totaly unfamiliar to the viewer. Most things in the everyday life of this story seem to be extrapilations of modren day taken to the extreme.
Second thing for American audiances is that you have to work some things out for yourself based on information presented. American movie audiances don't like to think for themselves. If it's pre-digested for them, they do much better.
There are other things like the amazingly outragious fashions that people wear. Most of that gets missed as people are to busy looking at the other stuff going on in the background.
Over all it is a very good movie in my opinion. But then I like to think for myself, I am creative and can see where some items in this move might come about.
Most of what people call actor flaws in this movie seem to be more director flaws. I say this as every one of the actors in this movie when see with a proper director does much better. Well, except Mr. Willis. He realy doesn't change charicters. I think this is partly due to the fact that directors don't tell him he needs to change his persona. Yes, directors can get star struck just like everyone else.
The story it's self was very well written. It keeps things moving right, and was origional in it's own right. To say that something is not origional because you've seen somethng close is very short sighted. That's one of those things with humans. They are influanced by what they have experianced before.
as a last note I know I don't spell very well. sorry, I try the best I can.
Pros: acting,comedy, special effects
Cons: none
This movie is a wonderful movie even if you are not a Sci-Fi fan. It is full of good comedy and wonderful scenery. My kind of forced my sister to watch this movie. She did not really want to at first because she does not like Si-Fi. I told her give it 30 min and if you do not like it then we will turn it off. Well it took about 15 min and she was hooked. She laughed a great deal and marveled at the special effects and story line. I have looked at this move over and over again and found not one gaff!!! That in itself is rare to find in a movie like this. I could never get tired of this move and glad that I have it my collection.
