The first time I saw this movie I was 13 years old.The movie had been banned in the UK so I had to watch it on a pirate vhs! (naughty I know). Still when I did see it I was hooked! I watched it over and over again! The battle between good and evil.The strange eerie atmosphere that seems to revolve around this movie captured me.This is the only movie that I've watched that I know off by heart.Word for word (sad maybe). The book is even better!! I've read that loads too! LOL! A lot of people say it's not scary.In many ways they are right.I don't find it scary.Things don't jump out at you.Blood and guts don't get spattered everywhere.The movie is more psychological.You yourself make it scary or not.Depending on how you look at it.Try watching it on your own with headphones on! I did.Believe me it's worth it!
I'm not a religious person,in fact I would probably call myself an Atheist.Yet I find this movie very captivating.I'm sure you will too.No matter what your beliefs are.ENJOY!Was this review helpful? Yes - NoThe Excorsist

I saw this movie when I was 14 back in 1974. I had read the book and couldn't wait to see the movie. My Mom wouldn't let me see it and I should have listened. I'm 46 now and I still won't watch it again. It is the scariest movie I have ever seen. I couldn't sleep for WEEKS without a light on and I wore a huge cross around my neck for months. I would never let my children watch this movie under any circumstances. It is an adult movie. If you want scary.. Watch it.

I watched it when I was 7 years old (although I wasn't allowed to) and I had a hard time sleeping at night, my mind would make me see her in the shower, in my room, just about everywhere that was dark. But I got over it once I grew up, my only advise for parents now is not to allow their children to watch this movie.

NOT A TYPICAL HORROR FLIC BUT THE REAL DEAL AND NOTHING CAN OR HAS TOPPED IT. THE REALITY OF IT MAKES IT EVEN MORE SCARY. U NEVER GET OVER THIS MOVIE, U KEEP IT IN YOUR COLLECTION AND DONT WATCH IT.

Yes, I had never seen this movie before!! Until yesterday...
I got so pumped after reading reviews like "This will never get out of your mind.., You won't be able to sleep..blah blah.."That I decided to watch it last night.
Here is my take on it. First 45 minutes, nothing happens!! Barely any dialogue, which could sometimes cast magic spell in movies, but here it was horrible.
I was actually laughing while watching this idiotic movie. If anything, this movie is full of expletives and swearing coming out of that girl, who is possessed. It is amazing to see how sometimes movies like this can acquire space among classics.
Utter disappointment. I can't think of any actor who stood out.
Screenplay was splattered all over. I am disappointed to say that there was NOTHING scary in this movie. Nothing that would make you cover your eyes, no sounds, no story, nothing.

This is by far the scariest movie ever made. The new scene are fantastic and just add to the movie. The spiderwalk is the creepiest thing I have ever seen on film!

when i was 11 years old someone told me about this film...i could hardly go to sleep for MONTHS! and i hadn't even seen it yet!?!

Wonderful but very disgusting and bizarre horror/religious thriller!!!Still scary to this day the scariest movie I have ever seen saw it once years ago never watched it again that's the effect it had on me!!!Disgusting and way over the top some images till stay with me Blair stabbing herself with the cross for one and the infamous vomiting scene!!!If you watch it trust me it will leave an affect on you guaranteed good or bad mine was bad!!!I couldn't sleep for a long time and i had nightmares constantly!!!

A TRULY GREAT PEICE OF FILMMAKING. THIS FILM IS AS MUCH A MOTHER,DAUGHTER STORY AS WELL AS PHYSCHOLOGICAL DRAMA. UNLIKE SO ALLED HORROR FILMS TODAY THIS FILM IS ACTUALLY ABOUT SOMETHING (GOOD VERSUS EVIL, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARENTS AND CHILDREN AND HOW THEY CHANGE AS THE CHILD GROWS, ETC...) THERE IS SO MUCH SUB TEXT GOING ON THAT BY THE TIME THE FILM ENDS YOUR THROAT WELLS WITH TEARS FOR THE REUNITED CHILD FREED FROM THE DEMON, WITH HER MOTHER...HOW MANY FILMS, HORROR OR NOT CAN YOU SAY THAT ABOUT TODAY ? EVERY FILM STUDENT SHOULD VIEW THIS FILM TO LERAN HOW TO TELL A CLASSIC STORY WITH REALISTIC CHARACTERS AND A HEARTFELT MESSAGE. TRULT A LEGENDARY FILM !

The Exorcist- The Version You've Never Seen is much better that the original version. It contain 9 minutes of unseen footage which contain the famous Spider Walk. It is truly a great movie. The Widescreen transfer 1:85:1 is much better than the one on the Special Edition and the sound has been digitally remastered and in in a Dolb Digital 5.1 Ex. This is a good movie to have in the DVD collection. It is just a pity they had no special features except the tralier and TV spots. But it is a truly great film!
