    Deeply Moving

This film is my favorite for one reason really. It had the power to move me, to make me see that someone who is different is still a human being, be he disfigured like John (really Joseph) Merrick, or simply different from what I am used to. Not on...ly that, but the performances, direction, EVERYTHING is PERFECT. The DVD is great quality, and has a few interesting extras. WORTH EVERY PENNY YOU PAY. Read more Less

    One of my favorites...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 31, 2002

Although it's emotionally draining to watch, this film should not be missed. I only regret not having the privledge of knowing John Merrick in person. People like him will be sitting in God's "jury-box" on judgment day. What a beautiful and touching ...lesson of humanity. This film should get TEN stars! Read more Less

I saw "The Elephant Man" for the first time on Bravo the other night. It is such a beautiful film and story. It is very sad, but doesn't leave you depressed, it leaves you in awe. I am so glad I was able to see such a wonderful movie.

    Best ever

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 25, 2001

Wow this movie is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. It is sad, because some people treat him like a monster, despite the fact that he is still a human being like the rest of them. It is inspirational, because Merrick is such a kind, gentle..., and polite man despite his horrible life. This is definately one of my favorite movies if not the most. Read more Less

    Eerily Brilliant

There are Hollywood "Cookie Cutter" movies that seek a utilitarian satisfaction of the masses......and then there are movies that expand the horizons of film itself. David Lynch's "The Elephant Man" presents the sorrow nd pain of one of the world's ...most wretched and misunderstood creatures.John Merrick, known as "The Elephant Man" for his horribly deformed appearance, has existed the majority of his life as a side-show freak. After years of abuse, both physical and emotional, his owner secretly takes him to a doctor when his "prized freak" takes a turn for the worse, healthwise. In the care of the good doctor, we are astonished to find a sentimental and thoughtful heart behind such a grotesque appearance. The Elephant Man is a powerful film that most will find difficult to forget. Inspirational yet tragic, the movie displays a warm side to David Lynch's obsession with the bizarre. Read more Less

    Heartwarming & Sad & Perfect

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 23, 2000

This might be Lynch's best... This is certainly the most emotional movie I've ever seen -- seeing the Elephant Man crying when he meets a beautiful woman or walking around in his nicely fitted suit :-)Shot in beautiful black and white and depicting ...a very bleak Victorian age... this movie is a classic... (good music too) Read more Less

Well, i can't really say anything else that hasn't been written by the other reviewers, but hey, at least there are a few others who have taste in film! For sure though, this movie is amazing and definitely one of the saddest films ever made so if y...ou're a a naive little girl who likes 'Titanic' {AAAAARRRGGHHH!} then you may just die of grief after you see this. 'The Elephant Man' is mandatory to your film collection if you are a serious collector. Read more Less
