The list of accomplishments and accolades accumulated by The Eagles is too long to recount, their music having been a staple of American music since the 1970s, and their popularity never waning. With five number-one singles and four number-one albums, two of which are among the best-selling records of all time, the group has helped form the backbone of classic rock; hits like "Desperado," "Hotel California," and "Lyin' Eyes" are instantly recognizable and timeless. After helping to popularize the Southern California rock sound of the '70s, the group--at this point made up of Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Timothy Schmit--broke up to pursue solo projects, but reunited in 1994 in recognition of the ever-loyal fans who still wanted to see them playing together. This 2004 concert, held in Melbourne, Australia, during The Eagles' monumental farewell tour, was one of the highlights of this historic world event, as one of the most popular American bands of all time says goodbye to its countless adoring fans.

Eagles Should Make this Farewell for good

Pros: Still good vocally, Steuart Smith

Cons: Steuart Smith, Joe Walsh, Over produced

Well, Hell froze over again! It's good to see the boys can still sing, but this time they have a little too much help. Guitarist Steuart Smith steals the show. Very good but I miss Don Felder-Joe Walsh duels. You will find very little Eagle guita...r here.....it's all Smith. Too many Walsh songs & funk 49 is reduced to a paltry whimpy redition. No punch from a band that could have ripped this one up. Timothy B. is still the best instrumentalst. If you want to really see the Eagles perform on DVD get Hell Freezes Over. Read more Less

    Another Eagles Masterpiece

By Brett  Jun 14, 2005 | 1 out of 2 found this The Eagles - Farewell I Tour: Live From Melbourne (2004) review helpful

Pros: Sound quality, Walsh songs really rock

Cons: Some of their big ones sound a little tired

Just got finished watching this, and I came away once again very impressed with the pure muscianship and attention to production. These guys are known perfectionists and it shows. Some say their live performances sound too much like the records, but ...on this one they spice it up a little more than on Hell Freezes Over, though there aren't many cool acoustic ones like on that DVD. Don Felder is missing on this one, but the guy filling in does a great job. I though the best performance was Walsh's Funk #49. It demands to be rocked LOUD in DTS. Once again the recording quality is superb with DTS as the only surround option. I actually had to turn down my subwoofer. Overall, more songs, more of a rockin' set than HFO. Frey & Schmidt look great while Henley and especially Walsh are starting to show their age (was that Hermes pajama bottoms Walsh was wearing?). If you like great music, buy this. If you have a great sound system, buy this, as it will really show it off and made you glad you spent the big bucks. Read more Less
