Pros: Almost realistic
Cons: a few exaggerations
This movie was used to teach medical students for a few years and I still use it. I am a cardiac surgeon who now teaches students. The operating room scenes are quite realistic. The scenes where he is treated rudely by other doctors are unrealistic but make a point about how we are perceived by our patients. Having been a patient, I know how realistic those scenes are. It is beautifully done and should be a part of medical education. It and the movie "Hospital" should be shown to every medical student. They are the best depiction of medicine in modern movies.
I believe that this film should be added to the educational programs of the medical faculties to remind the expected doctors that they themselves are also human beings who may also experience all the goods and all the bads in life. Here is a call to all surgeons; you will all enjoy this film, go watch it...
