The movie was filmed all over Europe, has a cast of thousands where even the extras are big names, and, with an original running time of more than six hours, doesn't leave out any detail from the celebrated novel.

    long (8 hrs) and very detailed adaptation of the Dumas Classic. Stays close to the book, except (and these are not just annoying excepts) glosses over the prison years and the influence of the Abbe Faria, and takes unwarranted liberties witht he end...ing.     8 hours of film were still not enough to do justice to the book The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas. Depardieu gives a brilliant performance. If you liked Jean de Florette, Manon des Sources, Life is Beautiful or Il Postino, you'll love this version ...of The Count of Monte Cristo. Read more Less
