    John Irving used this book and movie to argue the pro-abortion position. but the movie is very "pro-life".Look what happens to the main characters. The good Dr.Larch dies alone,unrecognized and addicted to drugs,the couple who aborts an inconvenient... pregnancy will remain childless, the migrant worker foreman dies a nasty death, and Toby Maguire's character is condemned to live his life as a fraud-and this is supposed to be"pro-choice?"     The Cider House Rules

    This movie was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I am a big time movie buff, and seeing this film made me laugh, cry, and think. Believing in abortions, but not believing in orphanage totally changed my views. I believe when a wom...an has the choice of keeping the baby, giving it up, or having an abortion, she should do whatever she wants too, no matter what other people may think. Now, I believe orphange's are great. It gives children a way to grow up in a world, but the reason I was and still kind of am, the child does not get to view the world. Homer did. He got to view all the aspects of the world. He even experienced "love." I think every person should see this film and take it to heart. Don't watch the movie and go against it with your views. Listen to it, appreciate it, and you will love the movie!! Read more Less

    The cider house does rule indeed.

    When we were supposed to go and see this movie with our finnish group, I thought oh no...But as I was sitting in the red and soft chairs of the movietheater, nothing could wake me from the spell the movie had cast on me. I didn't even realize the te...ars that were dropping on regular basis. The movie dealt everything from abortion to the preassure your parents cause you. I fell in loe with Curly and his big eyes, and I would've taken him in a second. The actors were great, Michael Caine, Toby Mcguire both of them were spectacular. After walking out of the movie, that tells you if the movie was good or not, You feel lost, empty, yet there are so many questions in your head that they make it spin, the movie has done its job!Strange how life can be a little piece of glass, in time all the edges ware off....     An excellent adaptation of the John Irving novel, this film stars Michael Caine and Tobey Maguire as two unlikely friends working as abortion specialists. A very sensitive, pro-choice film. Highly recommended.

    Absolutely fantastic film! In the midst of one of the worst Oscar runs in recent history, comes John Irving's brilliant adaptation of his own novel. This film was exceptionally well cast, Michael Caine was outstanding in his role as the Doctor who t...ook a young orphan, played by Maguire, under his wing. Maguire has issued his best performance to date in this masterpiece. His character is compelling, and interacts well with the rest of the cast (Lindo, Theron, et al). Great cinemaphotography, great locations, this one is on my list to buy as soon as it is released on DVD. Wish there were more films like it.Thumbs up! Read more Less
