    what a bonfire

    I had to give it ****1/2 stars, if for no other reason Melanie Griffith. But primarily because all of the characters were so true-to-life, and life is funnier than fiction, depending of course on your point of view.

    Excellent example of racial politics

    This movie was really dinged by the critics, which I am dissapointed to say, caused me to avoid it in the theatre. When I saw it on HBO I figured out that I had been reading the review of a staunch liberal. It certainly has its flaws which keep it f...rom being great, but it is a *really* good movie because it highlights how people play the race-card in politics shamelessly and bend reality out of shape with propaganda. The media need their villians to sell stories, and boy how race-baiting sells! Innocent victims? No such thing when you're talking about your "greater" social cause. Acting and casting is not that strong here, but it's definately worth watching! Read more Less

    I'm afraid the rumors are true as this film is no match for Tom Wolfe's novel. I do recommend it if you've read the book just to see how badly they screw it up. Fortunately, there is a lot of nice camera work that makes it an okay watch.
