    One of my favorites

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 2, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this The Blues Brothers (1980) review helpful

Pros: great music, funny quirky story

Cons: Illinois Nazis...."I HATE Illinois Nazi's!" lol

This is one of my favorites. There is a sense of utter coolness one gets when watching this movie that is hard to describe. I wonder how many middle-class suburban white kids got turned onto the blues after watching this movie? I've been a John L...ee Hooker fan ever since.... As far as Jake and Elwood go-These are the cool uncles that everyone wishes they had growing up. Nothing-not even a scorned Princess Leia with a rocket launcher fazes them. Why? Because they're on a mission from God....lol Read more Less

    The Greatest Musical EVER!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 28, 2004 | 1 out of 1 found this The Blues Brothers (1980) review helpful

Pros: The music in this film is unreal!

    Cons: none

"The one thing that people forget when they watch this film is that Dan and John were not professional blues singers. They were actors pretending to be blues artists." That was a quote from the late great Del Close. Del was the first act...ing director for Saturday Night Live. He also started The Improv Olympic in Chicago and was one of the first members of the famed The Second City. Del explained that the best thing that he ever taught John and Dan was to play the characters at the top of their intelligence. So Dan and John just decided to be the best blues artist that the world had ever seen. Well, it paid off. I know that this isn't the usual review, but I thought I'd share Del's story with you instead. Enjoy the film! Read more Less

A Better Version on DVD than in Theaters

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 25, 2003

I loved "The Blues Brothers" when it came out, but this DVD version is even better, more energetic, with delicious added footage; especially to the musical numbers, an improved "Peter Gunn" score, hilarious scenes that shouldn'...;t have been edited out, such as when Jake and Elwood hide their car from the police. Altogether, the movie runs now for 2 1/2 hours, and I usually get weary of movies that long, but this is definitely the fastest 2 1/2 hours I have experienced in my life. I also like the documentary of the making of this movie. Dan Aykroyd and director John Landis do a great and informative job, and my personal favorite is when Aykroyd says where he remembers John Belushi walking off the set into a stranger's house in the middle of the night, opening up the refrigerator, helping himself to a sandwich and falling asleep on his couch. That explains the bad-boy lifestyle Belushi led. As for the movie, it is just so much fun, and I would like to call this DVD a "party DVD." These are great movies with plenty of exciting extras, and more added scenes which makes them merrier. My party DVDs include "The Blues Brothers," "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Shrek," "There's Something More About Mary," and "Young Frankenstein." These DVDs make DVD watching more fun, as do "Caddyshack" and "Slap Shot", also given special editions, shorter on extras, but with colorful interviews with those involved. I only wish "Airplane!" and "Blazing Saddles" will join the party, and hopefully special editions of these great movies but lackluster DVDs will allow them to. Read more Less
