Pros: Superb acting

It takes a look at essential the downfalls of all addictions. How the addictions would start innocently enough, then evolve into an out of control nightmare. Luckily for Jim Carroll, he was able to survive the downfalls and live to tell his tale.

The Basketball Diaries is definetly one of Leo's best performances in his career. Being my favorite actor, i bought this movie to check it out and it turned out to be such a great and realistic movie about the true corruption that drugs bring to the world. Five stars-

Absolutely stunning film about the life of Jim Carroll. Seemed realistic in portraying what it must be like to be addicted to heroin. Not so much a Basketball movie as you may think by the name. Probably my favorite Dicaprio movie. If you are not too fainthearted definitely check this one out.

This movie is perhaps one of the best movies out there. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers one of his greatest performances in this story playing Jim Carroll, a basketball player who encounters heroine and is addicted to this deadly drug. Also stars Mark Whalberg and Lorraine Bracco.

This movie was the greatest. It has become one of my favorites. I am not a Leo fan, and I don't usually care for movies about Basketball, but it was the perfect mix of the two. Leo did a great job playing Jim. Jim ws a very complicated person, with a lot of issues, and Leo put himself in Jim's place, which is what made the movie so life like. It was a great movie, and I recommend it to everyone!

Although I was not a basketball or a Leo fan I was persuaded into watching this movie with some friends. I am still not a big basketball or a Leo fan BUT I am a big fan of this movie! It combines so much in a truely believable story that I was left thinking about it days later. One of those movies that doesn't try to appease the viewer by a grand happy ending- A more realistic ending which leaves the viewer wanting to find out more. Highly recommended. Rent it, or buy it, asap. It will change your view on life.

First of all, the number of reviews (or lack of) this movie has received simply does not do it justice. It's one of those movies that should have received more praise than it actually has - great acting, moving yet hard-hitting.
With reference to it's contribution to the recent high-school shotting - any claim to this is ridiculous, or at least, as was coined in 'Scream' - "movies don't make pshychos, movies just make psychos more creative".
Since seeing this movie, I have become interested in reading some of the work of Jim Caroll, and if this is the least effect it can have, well then that's something. this movie was awesome....I bought it. It was cool. Pedro should have gotten a better part. Why did they have to leave the poor guy in the candy shop? thats okay though. For those of you who dont know, Pedro is also on USA high. I know. his name is Lazzarina or something like that

The movie shows what teenagers usually go through growing up. It's a great movie, minus all the cursing. Leo DiCaprio is a great actor and it shows. It's got to take alot out of him to be the great actor that he is.

I actually liked this movie about a couple of wild teens living with life in Manhatten. All though I didn't like all of the cursing this movie is real life it's a true story and to me that makes me think. Leo is a great actor and it takes a lot of his energy to make this movie seem real life.
