Synopsis: The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977)

Scripted by Paul Brickman (RISKY BUSINESS), this sequel to Michael Ritchie's 1976 hit begins with the Bears reigning supreme as the little league champions of California. Kelly Leak (Jackie Earle Haley, BREAKING AWAY), the Bears' star player, travels with the team to the Houston Astrodome along with his estranged father (William Devane), who is now the team's coach....
Scripted by Paul Brickman (RISKY BUSINESS), this sequel to Michael Ritchie's 1976 hit begins with the Bears reigning supreme as the little league champions of California. Kelly Leak (Jackie Earle Haley, BREAKING AWAY), the Bears' star player, travels with the team to the Houston Astrodome along with his estranged father (William Devane), who is now the team's coach. There, they must play a between-inning game against the local champs, the Houston Toros, for the chance to go to Japan and play the best that the East has to offer. The Bears returned to the screen once more in THE BAD NEWS BEARS GO TO JAPAN.

    By far one of the most under-rated baseball comedies of the 70's, this classic follow up to the original is true to the "Bad News" formula as our Bears find all new troubles & hijinx to get into. Absent is Walter Matthau, but Devane's performance as... Kelly's old man is both sincere and humorous, i.e. his shorts & party socks in the practice scenes. Missing however is Devane's often aggressive masticating of chewing gum. All-in-all a great film for the 6th grade baseball player in all of us. Read more Less
