    7 FACES OF DR LAO

    By Dancer5612004  Apr 5, 2006

    Pros: Tony Randall

    Cons: nothing major

This is Tony Randall's finest movie in the Sci-Fi catagory, or childrens features. If you havent seen this one, you are not a true film buff. One has to experiance Mr. Randall's performance and interpretations of many fabled mythological char...acters to appreciate this film. This movie neither talks up to you or down to you, but makes it's statement as if a next door neighbor. Once in high school, I remember they showed this movie as a "Sunday Night Feature." I didnt expect to hear about this movie the next day at school from a bunch of teenagers that enjoyed this movie. The final sequence of the loose dragon and it's head becoming all the fabled creatures at once is a fine demonstration of what fireworks and chinese have in common. This movie is a classic! ENTER THE MAGIC CIRCUS OF DR LAO!

    By tom  May 21, 2004

Pros: Tour-de-force by Tony Randall, Unique fantasy & philosophy, one-of-a-kind entertainment

Cons: some cliche characters, but does not detract from wonder of the film

This is my favorite film of all time. Don't miss it! It's an absolutely unique fantasy film that showcases the amazing talents (sadly untapped in most of his career) of the late Tony Randall. He is a marvel to behold as he transforms into ...seven different characters, assisted by the amazing, Oscar-winning make-up of William Tuttle. The film, produced and directed by George Pal (the great pioneer of quality science fiction and fantasy filmmaking in the 50's and 60's---The Time Machine, War of the Worlds, Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm), is a one-of-a-kind blend of odd-ball fantasy, western, philosophical poem, heart-warming family film, and special effects carnival. The story (based on the underground cult novel Circus of Dr. Lao by Charles Finney and scripted by master fantasist Charles Beaumont) involves a mysterious Chinese mage who visits a small early-20th-century Arizona town to bring his strange traveling circus, where the townsfolk encounter all manner of supernatural beings and mythological creatures, from Merlin the Magician to the pagan god Pan to the fearsome Medusa to the blind Greek seer Appolonius to the Abominable Snowman (all played by Randall!). As these small-town yokels encounter impossible wonders, they discover things about themselves and about the fundamental magic of everyday life---and so do we.Dr. Lao's circus, in the unassuming guise of carnival humbug, reveals true wonders, the most wonderful being the joy of living life and sharing with others."Age may come and age may go,But no more circuses like this show!" Seven Faces of Dr. Lao

    By William  Oct 27, 2003

Pros: Good movie for kids, adults

Cons: Special effects limited, but good for 1963

I saw this film in the theaters when I was eleven years old, and had a fond recollection of it. It was a treat to see it again after such a long time.
