Pro Reviews: Thank You 3

  • All Music Guide

For a bandleader whose ego often dominated both his recordings and public reception, a series of entirely solo discs makes perfect sense. Former Scorpions and UFO guitarist Michael Schenker turns in his second Thank You disc in two years featuring -- as usual -- a handful of completely solo compositions. The 11 tracks feature a veritable army of Schenker's picking, bending, and wanking their way through neo-classical original compositions. The playing, of course, is impeccable, but mostly irrelevant. Schenker should, perhaps, be lauded for the arrangements bestowed upon his acoustic army: he manages to overdub countless acoustic guitars, each of which maintains its own voice in the surprisingly uncluttered mix.
