Few states have as rich of a musical legacy as the Lonestar State, and the Free Falls label commemorates this legacy on Texas to the Bone. The album compiles a diverse array of songs embodying the spirit of Texas in all its glory. You get contemporary country artists such as Pat Green ("Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way"), legends such as Waylon Jennings ("Honky Tonk Heroes [Like Me]"), and singer/songwriters like Pat Haney ("Ghost of Things to Come"). For the most part, the featured artists are contemporary and relatively unknown; the Jennings song is definitely an exception. Texas to the Bone is nonetheless a rewarding listen. It's not about big-name artists, after all, but rather the musical legacy of Texas, which is surely in abundance here even if the big names aren't. Successive volumes followed.
