    A "Technique" that works

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 30, 2007

Pros: A solid dance-oriented album from New Order

Cons: A bit dated in production, but it still packs a solid punch

1989's "Technique" may not be New Order's best album, but it's easily their most accessible release. Alternating between hook-infested guitar pop and perky disco, "Technique" finds New Order experimenting with acid hou...se on the bouncy first single "Fine Time." In that song, singer Bernard Summer tries to shake off a persistent lover who's "much too young to mess around" with him. Elsewhere, there's the energetic rush of "Round and Round," the guitar-flavored "Run" and "Dream Attack" and the disco stomp of "Vanishing Point." All the ingredietns of a New Order album are here: Peter Hook's rubbery bass, Bernard Summer's spoken child vocals, and synths that occaisonally sound 1980s. While "Brotherhood" and "Low-Life" are at present my two favorite New Order releases, "Technique" is a solid CD that deserved its gold status in the US. Read more Less

    ANOTHER BEST PIECE

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 9, 2002

Everytime New Order releases a new albums, its always worth a buy. This one is no exception either, i brought a copy of it back in 89 and still everytime i played it gets better..The album highlights the variety of techo and experimental sound the ba...nd concocted...Bernard Summer modalvoice & bands use/play of power-base with synchronized hypnotic play of inter-weaving keyboards fills by Gillian Gilbert ,still retains one of the bands trademark.....it's no wonder this band still maintains a profile respect from new generation of techno artist and band. "All The Way" and "Loveless"gives you a breath and reminiscent of a Joy Division tone. "Round and Round" another fine example of the bands ingenuity in keyboard and base play, creating a sound which is appealing on the ear n the dancefloor....."Dream Attack"is very different from the very typical sounds the band employs, but it certainly illustrates the bands broad skills and capacity to experiment and explore the different sounds of techno with the use of base and basic repetitive guitar riffs. All in all, the album itself showcase another best piece in the offing esp, to all the new-wave and techo followers.. Read more Less

    Yes!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 14, 2001

'Fine Time' is the first track I ever payed attention to this band. I was watching Sky and Super Channel's music TV shows extensively during that time and suddenly appeared a group called New Order and this particular track wrapped up in a strange v...ideo showing a child wrestling himself in bed while a dog tied up to it barks at someone aside... I guess New Order appealed to me even earlier but, the hell, who could ever tell it was 'Blue Monday' or '1963'?! So I started investigating because I liked 'Fine Time' very much so I had to find the whole album for my own ends. Even though their every album has a specific edge, 'Technique' had this special effect on me personally - and made me pay more attention to this group in the first place. Read more Less

New Order's best & most complete album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 20, 2001

This album is basically New Order at their very best. While not as dark as earlier pre Low Life material, it creates a different maybe more optimistic but still a feel to their music that no one else can compete with. Theres certainly plenty here to ...keep everyone happy, its only 9 tracks long but all are quality songs. My personal favourites are 'All The Way' 'Mr Disco' and 'Dream Attack'. Heres hoping the new release is something else we can all be proud to have in our collections, but then again, its unlikely they will ever bring out anything to match Technique. Read more Less

    New Order defies pop standards...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 17, 2000

For anyone who listened to pop in the late 80's, you must have sometime listened to this gem. Released in 89, "Technique" is chock full of memorable lines, which is surprising considering the fact that many had this band written off after the smash ...pseudo-hits album, "Substance." Nonetheless, New Order never sounded so fresh and new--largely due to the fact that the band was impressed by Spaniards and their sense of clubbing--chiefly evident on the album's closing cut, "Dream Attack."No doubt, this album deserves 5 stars, and when considering 80's pop-disco, this album cannot be overlooked. Unfortunately they followed with the blah-blah effort of "Republic," but fear not--a new album should be out by New Order in 2001... Read more Less

New Order reaches apex of techno-pop...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 28, 2000

Of all the New Order studio cds, it is "Technique" that stands above the rest. Although there is no song of star power like "Blue Monday" or "Bizarre Love Triangle," "Technique" is a consistently compelling adventure into techno-pop. "Fine Time" is ...a great opener--a bulging bass line and a nifty beat to match, it is perhaps the album's most danceable track. Slightly fast-past, "Fine Time" delivers, and the synth voices create an awesome club atmosphere, which ironically, the lyrics indicate. Next up are two consecutive melody driven gems: "All the Way" and "Love Less." Of the two, "All the Way" is the better cut; it features a humming melody and a memorable chorus. "Round and Round" is the album's slice of pie and most complete track, and New Order at the top of their game. The song is catchy, the lyrics are fantastic, especially the chorus as it rings, "The picture you see is no portrait of me." "Guilty Partner" ensues, delivering a nice, punchy bass and another swift chorus. With "Run" New Order reaches out into pop-rock territory, with a seering choral melody that boasts the most memorable riff on the album. "Mr. Disco" follows--the album's least desirable cut, but is followed by two strong numbers, "Vanishing Point" and "Dream Attack." With the closer, "Dream Attack," New Order rares back in this pseudo-ballad and pulls all the (literally) strings. The verses graze along until they find the catchy chorus, which beckons, "I don't belong to no one, but I wanna be with you...I can't change the way that I am." Lyrically, "Technique" is simply about relationships--whether pushing or pulling, New Order is even content with middle ground, but at least they prosper there. Sonically, New Order is at the apex of their catalog--"Brotherhood" is too inconsistent, and "Republic" is rather bland, which further helps "Technique" stand above previous and subsequent relases. A MUST HAVE for any dance-pop and/or New Order enthusiast, "Technique" deserves no less than 5 stars...PX99 Read more Less
