One of the 10 Best Endings in Film Histo

I don't know what grade you dropped out in Colbym10212 but it was probably about the seventh. Like almost every other American film goer you want everything handed to you through special effects and silly ass dialog that takes the story nowhere. I'll bet you think that the Mummy and Scorpion King were kick ass movies and that Rob Schneider and Vin Diesel should have Oscars in their homes. Anyway, Taxi driver is on the AFI's top 100 movies ever made list for a reason. Highly recommended.

    Not Good

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 14, 2003 | 1 out of 1 found this Taxi Driver (1976) review helpful

This movie isnt good until the last ten minutes when he goes insane, the rest is just him driving around in a taxi. It is very boring, and unless you cant find anything else to do for 2 hours dont watch it

When I first saw this movie I was blown away. The second time I saw it, it blew me away even more. Time after time you see this masterpeice I feel you learn something new about Travis Bickle every viewing. How his isolation from the world defines himself. The music in this movie is one of THE best ever. Rent..........no go out and buy it right now!!!!

taxi driver is another one of my favorite movies.at the beginning u would think the taxi driver(robert deniro) was a normal guy but at the end when he causes terror to the people on the streets u have to wonder if he's really the crazy one or the hoodlums on the streets.i think it was a little bit of both he took it too far but nobody else could stop what was goin on in the streets so u couldnt really blame him for putting justice in his own hands.this movie is a classic.5 stars.

There is no movie that better captures alienation or insecurity. There is no movie that better depicts inner suffering or urban vigilance. The characters are dark and sleazy, the setting gray and polluted, and the times are those of ultra-reaction. A classic, serious film that is not for everyone's taste.

    Film of the 70's

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 1, 2001

Nearly all of us feel what Travis feels but he manages to take it two steps further. Everybody feels like "cleaning up the streets" but only Scorsese and Deniro can do it. Cracking script, integral score and stunning acting makes this a must see for all.

    Is there anything Scorsese/DeNiro can't

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 12, 2001

WOW! There are very few words that can really help illustrate what a great film this is. I think it should have received more recognition especially by the Academy. Probably one of the best films from the 70's and definitaly a Scorsese masterpiece. I love his meticulous nature with films. He also had a great cameo in this one! The special features on DVD make it an absolute must-own! Jodie Foster plays a nice little slut too, but the ending really ties everything up beautifully! Great Job across the board! -Nate

    Brutal, unforgiving, tour de force...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 1, 2000

A classic Scorcese/De Niro colaboration. Taxi Driver is a heart stopping, often disturbing view of life on the streets of New York, and the scum and filth that inhabit it.

De Niro's performance is exceptionaly powerful and frightning...this role is one of his best, and he has forever inmortalised the character of Travis Bickle in film history.

Scorcese's direction is almost flawless - defining camera shots, moody photography and an ending that portrays how outstanding a director he really is.

Many find this film too disgusting, especially the violent ending. If you're put off by extreme violence, then don't watch this film, but if you appreciate the acting talents of De Niro, combined with the technical brilliance of Scorcese, this is a must for drama die-hards.

Still crazy after all these fears.....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 12, 2000

As much as it's become a cool reference for film bores and hipsters, Martin Scorsese's chilling meditation on suburban malcontentedness still excites and repulses me in equal measure. It's a very sad film. For all his violence, Travis genuinely wants to do right and believes he is helping people in what he does. He's a touching and vulnerable anti-hero. Still great viewing, 24 years on.

    Brilliant

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 8, 1999

Perhaps next only to RAGING BULL'S Jake LaMotta, this is DeNiro's greatest role. An absolutely brilliant and chilling portrayal of boredom, violence, emptiness, loneliness and alienation. After this film, cinema was never the same. A perfect example of a director (Martin Scorcese) and writer (Paul Schraeder) perfectly complementing one another. The violent climax is devastating. Not everyone's cup of blood for sure.
