Talladega Nights Doesn't Even Qualify For The Race

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 10, 2007

Pros: Some of the tongue in cheek jokes about NASCAR are a little funny, if that, but little more than that.

Cons: Not even the extra features could save this movie. Will Ferrell's brand of comedy is just an acquired taste.

Will Ferrell's brand of comedy is, perhaps, an acquired taste. Even if that is the case, it is a brand of comedy that does absolutely nothing to make this movie funny. Given, many NASCAR stars, including Dale Earnhadt, Jr. endorsed it, but it sim...ply IS NOT funny. Yes, everything in the movie was meant to be tongue in cheek. That is all fine. But Ferrell's brand of comedy is perhaps aimed mainly at much younger audiences such as the current Gen-X'ers. While the movie itself is not offending to fans of NASCAR (it is actually a little bit entertaining, if that), scenes such as an early scene in which the family is having dinner from all of Ricky Bobby's sponsors is highly offensive. The scene entails Ricky Bobby's two sons outright cussing at each other and even at their grandfather. From there, Bobby and his wife come very close to having sex on the dinner table in front of the family, and his friend played by the much better John C. Reily. And of course, let us not forget the infamous kiss between Ferrell and Borat star, Sacha Baron Cohen, later in the movie. There are some scenes which if not offensive are disturbing. Comedy just is not what it used to be. And Will Ferrell is proof of it. He is even worse than Dane Cook (Employee of The Month) and that is saying something, considering that Cook is not exactly the funniest man in the world, either. Ricky Bobby may have won some races in this movie, but overall, Talladega Nights doesn't even qualify for the race. Read more Less

    Pros: good racing scenes

    Cons: Will Farrel

While i'm not a fan of nascrap, this movie makes a mockery of the 'sport' and while i don't like that 'sport' there's no reason hollywood should muck it all up. Will is not a good actor, he is as lame as they come and I th...ink he should be put out to pasture before he ruins another movie that the airhead people at hollywood want to cast him in. He's not funny. Read more Less
