Pros: A nearly perfect country pop record

Cons: Nothing

After the 2003 problem with President G.Bush, being denied by radio stations, TV shows ... the hot trio has come back with their new album " Taking the long way ", which debuted at no1 on the Billboard hot 200 albums chart with more than 500k copies sold in its first week of release, and then stay there for another week. The music is still really strong, full of energy and the lyrics still concentrate on life, people, political problems ... Their 1st single " Not ready to make nice " has been named Song of the year, Record of the year, Best country performance by a duo or group with vocals at the 49th Grammy Awards. Moreover , " The long way around " - the 3rd single ranked at no20 on top songs of 2006 voted by Rolling Stones Magazine. I myself think that it's definitely the greatest album of the year.

How many times can one soulfully look into the narcissistic mirror before it gets old? We have our answer with this album. Natalie et al, get over yourselves!!! They may be the darlings of the emotive exclusionaries but can they please start something new.

The sad part is that all the awards and fawning accolades are going to cause ther next albumn to be, again, more of the same. But then there will be less sales and no acclaim as the syncophants find their next idols.

I half to say I am aware of some contrverosy things the Dixie Chickens said regarding a argument with other stars concerning views in terms of a certain presiident and allegedly some things he may or may not have said and people who might or may not have disagreed. But GUESS What! I thought this record compact disk would just be a argument record, like, just maybe even talking without any music about who said what or who disagrees more madly than the other or who is going to have a fight with whom after the COuntry Cable Musicains Awards show is over. But guess what! It's totally excellent country fried music with many thoughts contained--THE DIXIES HAve madea summertime fun expereience and now WE get to all agree on it. Chicks back and better than ever!

Cons: right wing and zealots won't like it

I loved this cd. I like the tight harmony, and the great feeling that lead singer Natalie brings to each and every song. There's lots of anger and imagery in the songs, but I think alot of artists do their best work under pressure/after life-changing events.
If you like their earlier works, give this a listen with open ears.

This far outshines the normal cheesy, and hook-laden crap that "country" music seems to push on it's radio stations...

This ride is definately dark, but still an E-ticket.

its been a long time since the chicks have been heard from but after getting married, having kids and that little incident of free speech they have returned with a mix of a new attiude and the old chicks style those of us who didn't trash our chicks discs have grown to love love love!

"Not Ready To Make Nice" is a great way to say "Hi we're back!" Its rare for me to like all the songs on an album but this is one of those rare discs. I could go on about all the songs but the one that seems to always stick in my mind is "Lullaby" a sweet song written for Natalie's kids but also feels like the sweetest love song.

Look after an opening week selling over half a million cd's alone..there really isn't much more you can say except, "what? you don't have it yet?" GO GET IT NOW!
