TMNT A Blast From The Past

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 22, 2007

Pros: The movie isn't a remake of the origianl TMNT movies, or a ripoff of any of the cartoon episodes past or present. It is its own movie.

Cons: The story itself simply felt more made for straight-to-dvd format than a big screen feature. Also, the extra features did little to add to or detract from the overall package.

TMNT was considered a commercial flop when it originally hit theaters. That led to it being sent to DVD very quickly. This being said, perhaps the movie should have been released straight to DVD to begin with. Why? Because while it is a fun blast fr...om the past for those who grew up with those heroes in a halfshell, the overall plot and feel of the movie do not make for the huge blockbuster that its makers had hoped it to be. The turtles don't face off againstt Shredder in this movie. Actually, the narrator (who sounds suspiciously like Laurence Fishburne), points out in the beginning of the story that they had done away with Shredder years ago. This is a plus to the movie. It makes sure that longtime fans understand that this is not a remake, sequel, or anything else. It is its own movie, albeit one that, again, should have been a straight-to-dvd release, rather than a big screen project. The special features of the movie do little to add to or detract from the movie. They're just fun little additions to the main feature. To its defense, this movie helped resurrect the Turtles, including the creation of a new Saturday morning cartoon on FOX stations nationwide. All of this being noted, TMNT is a movie that old school fans of the Turtles will enjoy. Those who know little to nothing about them likely will not enjoy it, leading back to the conclusion that this really should have been straight-to-dvd, rather than a big screen project.
