The French band Telephone made a name for themselves in their homeland playing Stones-influenced guitar rock with punkish protest lyrics often sung in their native language. Their self-titled 1977 debut and its follow-up, 1979's Crache Ton Venin, showcased the band's amateurish energy and the French Mick Jagger impersonation of lead singer Jean-Louis Aubert. Telephone switched to Virgin for 1980's Au Coeur de la Nuit, and two years later released an EP, Telephone, which featured some vocals from bassist Corinne Marienneau. However, by the time of 1984's Glyn Johns-produced Un Autre Monde, the band had run out of steam (and ideas).
