You want music from this this era? This disk is essential.Sting tried really hard, but he never really did anything better, and this disk, played on a sysetm with sufficient discrimination, shows exactly why folks are now paying premium prices for th...e effiorts of Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. Sometimes you listen to an ordinariy CD and then a MFSL disk with moderately-good equipment and say, "What's the big deal?" That won't happen with this disk.Sorry, but if you miss this one, you've missed the whole point. Read more Less

Although the Police's fifth release, 1983's Synchronicity, would be their most commercially successful and lead to a soldout tour of enormodomes (including New York's Shea Stadium), it would turn out to be the trio's final album and tour. Like all Police recordings, Synchronicity contains some obvious "filler" (such as the silly dinosaur tale of "Walking in Your Footsteps" and the almost unlistenable "Mother"), but for the most part, it's exceptional. One of 1983's biggest singles, the haunting "Every Breath You Take" is an obvious highlight, as well as other hits the cacophonous rocker "Synchronicity II," plus the far more temperate "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "King of Pain." Also included are the oftoverlooked tracks "O My God," "Synchronicity I" (used as a concert opener on the ensuing tour), "Tea in the Sahara," "Murder by Numbers," and the Stewart Copeland original "Miss Gradenko." Few other albums from 1983 merged tasteful pop, sophistication, and expert songwriting as well... as Synchronicity did, resulting in yet another alltime classic. - Greg Prato, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

The Police

Nominally, the Police were punk rock, but that's only in the loosest sense of the term. The trio's nervous, reggaeinjected pop/rock was punky, but it wasn't necessarily punk. All three members were considerably more technically proficient than the average punk or new wave band. Andy Summers had a precise guitar attack that created dense, interlocking waves of sounds and... Read more
