Pros: All
Cons: None
I don't know why others are having trouble loading and all. Just follow simple instructions, and it's a breeze. I have been using Norton Internet Security for years. I am using Windows XP, with IE7. Have no problems installing or using. When installing with a disk, yes you have to answer a few prompt questions about sites, but it has to learn what you want. After it does, they go away. Years ago, I tried their competitor (MCaffee) for a year. Tried to renew over internet and got a virus doing it. I just renewed Norton (over internet) with no problems. WTG, Norton
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Support is a joke, lots of bugs, you can't renew without "upgrading"
When I originally bought the software I was extremely happy with it, but when the time to renew the subscription aproached(3 months before the expiration of the original)that's when everything went wrong, the program started bothering me with an unstopable pop up, asking for an important upgrade, just to get over it, I decided to upgrade to a newer version, but the newer version couldn't handle the crucial update of virus definitions so I had to remove the whole program and reinstall the older version, I try to contact Symantec and they just gave me the round and round, I wasn't able to contact a human to adress my problem, I still have 24 days of the original subscription, the update of the definitions is working right, but I can not renew my subscription without upgrading the software. My next purchase of internet security software will not be from Symantec!
Pros: NEVER HAPPENED
Cons: TO HARD
I have been using a Symantec Anti-Virus system for my personal computer for two years. The system seems to have done itâs job during that period of time; I was not the victim of any internet or software virus problems; my internet surfing is fairly reserved though.
I would still be using the system were it not for the unbelievable lack of customer service or a sincere desire to help customers when they need it. My problems were specifically dealing with the renewal portions of my yearly subscription. Upload and usage of the system were fine, trouble free. Probably the last place you would ever think there would be problems is during renewal. I can understand issues during installation or use but those issues I have experienced, for two years in a row, just trying to renew a subscription just blew me away.
This last attempt at renewal sent me over the edge and the problem was not at my end, quite the contrary, they admitted to issues at their end. This was after better then five long, miserable hours of trying to solve the problem; which was, the authentication codes they would provide me were not recognized by their system in order to complete my renewal. Absolutely ridiculous. I gave them every chance in the book to solve the problem.
Then when all was said and done they told me they would send a new installation disc for a newer version (I was using 2006, they would send me 2007). Their explanation after wasting five hours was that they know of system problems at their end, but, this is THE FIX⦠Only catch is, I had to pay them $39 plus $10 shipping for the disc⦠Wait a minute, Symantec has a problem at their end, unable to renew my subscription and now it is my responsibility to pay for a fix for a problem at their end... Just didnât seem logical. Anyhow, I bought the disc on 26NOV07, waited until 23DEC07 for the disc (my charge card had been debited 03DEC07 for the cost) at which time I again called to their customer service line, which by the way, you have not experienced anything until you try their system; seems like 15 minutes or more of pushing buttons on your phone to finally end up with a real person. I actually was on hold for 59 minutes one night, at 0130 in the morning east coast time, before a person at their end picked up. Did I mention the âwait musicâ needs some serious revampingâ¦
Then, after having to re-explain everything in painful detail because they could no longer find my case file the individual at their end simply said âI am issuing a credit to your accountâ. Wait a minute, how did they find my account if they no longer had a record of the problem? Fine, but where was the disc for the newer version? No explanation⦠Iâm still not sure if the product is coming or not; I have been without an update to my virus protection for almost a month, probably not a big deal but it is the point of customer service, is it not.
I also hate to bring this up because all the bleeding hearts will probably think Iâm a racist or something but it appears that all the support provided by Symantec is based in India, my guess only. The folks that were trying to assist all sounded as if they were from India. Our best attempts at clear and concise communications were always a constant challenge. I am not sure at their end but I was going bonkers trying to clearly understand what was being said; very simply, I have a dog gone hard time understanding them with their dialect. We would have to repeat 10 to 15 digit acknowledgement codes at least 4 times to make sure what was being said is what was actually heard and recorded.
Bottom line, if you like Symantec, get it; seems to work fine. But when it comes to renewal and or customer service after the fact, go to the store and get the newer version and upgrade yourself. Funny thing is that it would have cost me less in time and money if I had done that in the first place. And No; I will not use their product again.
Pros: None
Cons: Slows computer to a crawl
I would take my chances with a virus and run no security if the only option is Internet Security 2007. A virus couldn't slow down my computer any more than it is with Norton. Horrible. I've done everything suggested; called; emailed; chatted. It's futile. Beware. DON'T BUY!
Pros: Ease of use
Cons: Customer support
I called customer support once. It was horrible. After gettingsince. off the phone I uninstalled the software and promptly went and bought and installed ZoneLab's. I've been happy ever since.
Pros: Lets you know EVERYTHING
Cons: Lets you know EVERYTHING
Norton has got to be THE most irritating security software. You cant do nothing on your computer without it popping up EVERY 5 SECONDS to ask you the same question. If you click always allow- it asks you twice or three times again. Heaven forbid you choose to always block because it will ask you a never ending amount of times the same question to the point where you get so frustrated you just turn off your computer. It dosent matter what you have the settings on. Norton is good for your computer? How can anyone know- its too annoying to stay on the computer to find out.
Pros: Simple Effective protedtion with a spam killer add on
Cons: Somewgat teduiys download with several restarts required.
I used McAfee for about six or eight months because it came with Dell products. Generally I liked it but their support frin India was a bit hostile and when they went to 2006 and I converted it did not work well at all. I dumped them and went to Norton 3006 and subsequently 2007 with a free u.pgrade along the way. I also took the time to download the Anti-Spam module. All features work very effectively and the suite has already blocked one "trojan horse; virus from coming aboard. I would say that Norton is the best product for general use on the market. I know what my problem with McAfee was. I was using IE v.7 and it was not comapatible with that. Neither is Norton at the moment but at least Symantec told me that their porduct was not compatible and McAfee did not even though I told them that iwas using IEv7. I subsequently went back to I E v6 and everything has been fine. The updated Explorer also affected my PSC All-in-one software and some other things. It will be a long time before I ever go to Vista! Anyway I am ver satisfied with the Norton product and may go with the 360 edition at renewal.
Pros: My computer didn't explode...
Cons: It won't install.
This is quite possibly the worst piece of software in existence. It won't install on my Windows XP computer, no matter how many times I try, and there's no tech support for it. Get something else, don't waste your time with Norton.
Pros: None
Cons: Appears to be incompatible with IE7 and Windows XP.
After installing this software I was unable to read e-mails in my other accounts on my Windows XP system. After four rounds of e-mail exchanges with their tech support I have am now unable to read e-mails from any account. Internet Explorer 7 will no longer run script files, Windows Media Player no longer works, and Windows Media Center no longer works. I am trying to get my money back with little success. I would stay away if at all possible! I had to switch to Firefox to get e-mail access and Winamp to run media files. I am still unable to fix the original problem.
Pros: I can't think of any at this moment
Cons: It screws up your system
Well I got the message its time to upgrade so I purchased the same bundled Internet Security 2007 plus SystemWorks as I did in 2006. Boy was that dumb. Symantec doesn't bother to tell you that SystemWorks is the same in both offerings. You can't uninstall the 2006 version without ripping every Norton product off of your machine and reinstalling them.
So far GoBack has been my life line. After two installs and a marathon with Norton Help in chat mode that got me no where I finally thought that the 2007 product had at least settled down after a third rollback. Today I got an error that the product went south again and after another rollback and auto update its running again.
Bottom line is this.....If you are running the 2006 product stay with it. Norton help is virtually nonexistent. They don't pay attention to what you tell them concering a problem and all they can offer is to run the Norton deinstaller which removes all Norton products. You're stuck with trying to find all of you product installation keys and media so you can rebuild.
These kind of problems were what drove me away from McAffee three years ago. All I can say is that if the 2007 product fails again I am going to ask for a refund. Too bad I can't charge them for the 14hours our so that I have had to spend trying to survive the installation of a product that up to now has been excellent.
Pros: since it won't install on a new laptop, none were found
Cons: It simply refuses to install on a new laptop, repeatedly generating an error (code 9999,171). It is a problem that Symantec are well aware of, but are unable to assist me overcome.
It simply refuses to install on a new laptop, repeatedly generating an error (code 9999,171). It is a problem that Symantec are well aware of, but are unable to assist me overcome. Despite downloading numerous pieces of software tools, I am no nearer to installing this software after two days.
I have been a loyal Symantec user until now. However, if you want to install a simple, straight forward Internet Security package I cannot recommend Norton's 2007 pack.
There are numerous other credible brands available, such as McAfee, Trend Micro's PC-Cillin, AVG, Computer Associates, etc.
Pros: None yet
Cons: Fails to install
Trying to set up for father in law, what a horrid pain!
After long install process, it claims there are problems and you need to uninstall it. The second time you install it claims you need to run a special tool to remove old software. After uninstalling a second time, and running the special tool, received same error.
For the life of me I cannot find a phone number to talk to someone.
My Trend Mirco was never this hard.
As I go through this I remember why I stopped using Norton in the first place.
