After the Bangles disbanded in 1989, vocalist/guitarist Susanna Hoffs began her own solo career. Two years after the band's demise, she released When You're A Boy, which featured songs written by Cyndi Lauper, Juliana Hatfield and Diane Warren. As the wide array of songwriters suggest, the album was a little unfocused alternating between jangling guitarpop and synthladen mainstream pop but it did generate the Top 40 hit, "My Side of the Bed."
Following the release of When You're A Boy, Hoffs took several years off to concentrate on domestic life. She returned to recording in 1996 with Susanna Hoffs, her first release for London Records. While the album failed to launch a hit single, it received stronger reviews than her debut.
