Pros: One of Colvin's Best Songs

Cons: Not on the Sunny Came Home (US) CD

This review addresses the "B" side track on the "Sunny Came Home" US single (and it may also be on the UK version of the Album by the same name): specifically I refer to the track "What I get Paid for". It's virtuall...y impossible to get this track in the US, AFAIK. This is a tragedy as it's one of her best songs, IMHO. --I came across it on Napster, I think-- back in the day before mp3 DLs were not criminal offences. ;-\ Colvin's work generally surpasses that of her comtemporaries, in that her lyrics are vastly more thoughtful and thought provoking than those of her peers. In this regard, she is similar to Joni Mitchell, whom Colvin lists as an influence. Musically, Colvin's work is easy on the ears and with her lovely voice, her pleasant arrangements and her memorable melodies, she's one of the greatest in the Singer-Songwriter (a dying breed?) genre. Paid for tops the list of all-time best Colvin tunes. Anyone know when she's planning to release another album? Paid for which is co-written with Neil Finn (who used to be part of Crowded House, I believe). Read more Less
