Pros: Classic Blues/ Jazz in a live format

Cons: Some off color language not suitable for young audiences

When we were in Memphis,TN. on vacation, "Summer Heat" by Etta James was highly recommended by patrons of a local store on Beale Street. I purchased the c.d. from the store, and gave it to a friend from New Orleans. We all thoroughly enjoyed... the lively, sometimes sultry and downright sexy lyrics of Etta James. Some have compared Etta James to either a young Ella Fitzgerald or other blues singers. I feel that Etta has a sultry, sensuous, somewhat gutteral quality to her performance. She transcends the "norm" into her own private realm..yet, she draws you into her private world. Not something you would give to a prudish grandmother, but highly recommended for any baby boomer on your Christmas list..and full of blues, sassiness and lots of soul. James Brown, move over...Let Etta James blow you away ! She's got Soul, sensuous intonations and a quality to her voice quite rare in the blues world. You'll enjoy this c.d. produced in 2001, yet a classic. Read more Less

Biography

Etta James

Few RB singers have endured tragic travails on the monumental level that Etta James has and remain on earth to talk about it. The lady's no shrinking violet; her autobiography, Rage to Survive, describes her past (including numerous drug addictions) in sordid detail. But her personal problems have seldom affected her singing. James has hung in there from the age of RB an... Read more
