"Stripped" to PERFECTION!!!!
, October 24, 2002Reviewer: btmitchell2001 - See all btmitchell2001's reviews7 of 7 Yahoo! Users found this Stripped review helpful Yes, the genie is back and has come out of her bottle. "Stripped" is one of the best disc to come out in a while and has something for everyone. Like another reviewer said, there is not one single dud on this album. Christina manages to deliver a very personal album that is exactly pefect. The album opens with the girl power anthum "Can't Hold Us Down", ("This is for my girls all around the world (around the world)/ Who will come across a man that don't respect your worth Thinking all women should be seen not heard So what do we do girls? SHOUT LOUDER!" ) a Neptunesy hip hop number that SHOULD have been the first single. Next comes the majestic captivating ballad"Walk Away"; the most beautiful ballad Christina has recorded to this date. U will shed a tear with "I'm O.k" ("Bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same") which deals with the domestic violence Christina suffered as a child (cowritten by Linda Perry) and get nasty with rauch tracks like the sexy smooth "Get Mine, Get Urs" and the club banger "Dirrty". Christina unloads on back stabbing friends with the rock and roll track "Fighter" (with special guest Dava Navarro playing the strings) and guarantees herself a Grammy with the simply beatiful ballad "Beautiful". Christina also branches into neosoul territory with "Loving Me For Me" which is sort of Jill Scott ish but relaxful and peaceful and into the British pop territory with "Makeover"! So whatever ur mood or musical flava, "Stripped" has a track 4 u. Bye Bye Britney. Christina has taken her rightful place as the Queen of Pop. ... -
Stripped step by step
, May 9, 2003Reviewer: miguel_botelho - See all miguel_botelho's reviews3 of 4 Yahoo! Users found this Stripped review helpful Hi all. I bought this album without many good expectatives, but it suprised me a lot, its not what i thought it is! Its just one of best albums i had ever heard! Following, i describe song by song and i give my personal classification:
1 - Stripped intro: A good way to open the album, it is a reflex of new xtina, more mature and greater! 8/10
2 - Cant hold us down: One of my favorite songs of album! Its a hip-hop song and is a duet with Lil Kim. The voice of both are great and so, this a great song. It is the most hip hop song of album, along with Dirrty. 10/10
3 - Walkaway: The 1st balad of album. Its a relaxing song, the lyrics are great and she sings perfectly the song, it has a good sound. Its a good song to hear after a hard day. 9/10
4 - Fighter: One of my favorite songs of all album! It is a rock song, very cool beat and great lyrics. The video is perfect to the song, no doubt. It has a very positive and strong message. Be a fighter! 10/10
5 - Primer Amor Interlude: The only spanish part of all album. Its a great way to begin the next song infatuation. The lyrics of this song are great! 8/10
6 - Infatuation: Its a good song. I am latin and so, i love the latin beat of this song, it is gorgeous and makes me wanna dance. It is a good song, no doubt, very dancable and very latin. 9/10
7 - Love Embrace Interlude: Its a good way to begin the next song. It reminds of nature and of Mariah Carey. 7/10
8 - Loving me 4 me: Its a good song, good lyrics, but is not one of my favorites on album. Its a slow song, but good above all. 7/10
9 - Impossible: Great song! Great colaboration with Alicia Keys. This is a soul song, Alicia plays Piano and Christina sings, its a fantastic duet. 10/10
10 - Underappreciated: Its a gorgeous song, this one. Its a soul/pop song, its dancable and has good lyrics. 9/10
11 - What can i say about this song? Everyone sings it, it is simply gorgeous. The lyrics are fantastic, everyone must hear it and open mind. Were beautiful, no matter what they say! The song is simply great and its Christina greatest balad till moment. 10/10
12 - Make over: Its the punk song of album. She almost screams on chorus. It reminds me a bit of Avril Lavigne. It has good lyrics and great beat. 9/10
14 - Cruz: Gorgeous balad! Its a very slow song, but very emotional and good to listen when you fell sad and fell like youre nothing. It is a very positive song. 10/10
14 - Soar: Soar is like Cruz. Its not so slow and its more classic, it has a lot of instruments in chorus. Its a good song to listen after a hard day working. 9/10
15 - Get mine, get yours: Its my favorite song of album. Its a pop song, very dancable, very great. The lyrics are great, talks being individual and like you are, not like others want you to be. Listen it! 10/10
16 - Dirrty: Its the most comercial song of album, thats why it was the 1st single. Its a good hip hop song, the duet with Redman is great and the song is very dancable. The lyrics are good to dance and to have fun. 9/10
17 - Stripped part 2: A song of courage! Thats in this song you can see how different and better she is of Britney, Christina is more pure and sings with her soul, not like Britney. She says sorry im not a virgin, sorry im not a slut, it reveals how open mind she has and no fear of hide what she is! 10/10
18 - The voice within: Its a balad that reminds me of I turn to you. Its the same kind, basically. Very positive song, very good to relax. 9/10
19 - Im ok: One of my favorite songs on album. It is a sad and hurt song, that talks about her father. Its a very personal and emotional song. Is a slow song, with great sound. 10/10
20 - Keep singin my song: What a way to finish the album! Its a good song, not slow but not too fast, that finish this album and is a beggining for the next album. So, keep singin her songs! ...

Pro Reviews: Stripped
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews According to Christina Aguilera, the title of her second album, Stripped, refers to her emotions and not her body, but the topless photograph of her on the cover suggests otherwise. Most things about Stripped suggest sex, actually, since Xtina as she calls herself in a handful of interviews accompanying the release of the album never hesitates to put her body, her piercings, and recently liberated sexual beliefs on display throughout her hypersexual, convoluted sophomore effort. Like any diva, Christina believes her trials and tribulations are inherently more fascinating than anybody else's and, like any diva, she has an inflated sense of selfimportance, defiantly strutting on the "Stripped Intro" that she's "sorry you can't define me/sorry I break the mold." What she's referring to is anybody's guess, since she hasn't exactly defied expectations since her last album releasing a Christmas album and a Spanishlanguage record of your debut ain't exactly breaking the mold: it is the mold. Plus, Stripped clearly has its origins in the sound of two of Christina's teen pop contemporaries the teasing sexiness of Britney Spears and the wonderful, gonzo dancerock confessionals of Pink, who truly did break the mold with Mssundaztood. Since Aguilera spent so much time working on the album, tearing through a seemingly countless number of producers, she seems desperate to not just catchup with these two, but surpass them in the sex and confessions, breaking it down so they become the same thing, while adding a strong hiphop undercurrent throughout all the songs. And the end result is utterly bizarre, surpassing Mariah Carey's Glitter as the modernday standard for musical immolation while rivaling The Teaches of Peaches in its sheer carnality. Where Peaches always is in control of her sexuality, using it as a weapon and a joke in equal measures, Christina is overwhelmed by the reaction of others to her sexuality, putting it on equal ground with her voice, which remains a remarkably powerful instrument, especially since she's toned down the scalerunning histrionics from her debut. If she's mastered her vocals, she's still desperately searching for her artistic voice, placing too much emphasis on club and streetlevel RB, which fit her poorly (why was "Dirrty," a nonsong that requires less range than the slinky sexiness of "I'm a Slave 4 U," the first single?), when she needs fullblown songs. There are some here, though, most notably the Linda Perry collaboration "Beautiful," which was rushreleased as a second single, but the ceaseless 70minute running time and seemingly endless 20 songs mean that individual moments are lost and the big picture remains. And that big picture is that of an artist who has grown up too fast, while the sound is that of an artist who's given too much freedom too early and hasn't yet figured out what to do with it. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |
