Pros: UFO at their best
Cons: absolutely none
To put it plainly, this is one of the finest live rock albums ever. UFO were at their collective peak and songs that were strong studio tracks to begin with are given new life on stage. The band still sounds hungry here and Schenker's leads simply blaze. The album retains a very "live" feel and the remastered version sounds fantastic. Having seen UFO live myself, I can honestly say this is as good a representation of the band on stage as you'll find. Long live rock and roll!!!!
This is the best live album of all time.
This is a pretty good album, some of the songs are better on stage than in the studio, especially Let it Roll, Doctor Doctor, Lights Out and the 11 minute version of Rock Bottom is the highlight of this album, the downside of this album is Natural Thing, the live version is mediocre compared to the studio version, if you love classic live albums, get this album
Michael Schenker rocks. He played with brother Rudy on the Scorpions' 'LoveDrive' album.
TRACK AFTER TRACK THIS ALBUM ROCKS ANY TRUE ROCK FAN WOULD AGREE SCHENKER'S SCREEMING V ON THIS RECORD IS SOME OF THE BEST LIVE GUITAR WORK EVER TO BE RECORDED. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND ADD THIS ONE TO YOUR COLLECTION!
The Summer of '79 would not have been complete without Strangers. Our crew wore out three Strangers cassettes that Summer. Whether going to a party, or surfing, the immortal strains of the intro to Rock Bottom still ring at 120db in my ears to this day. The Schenk is the best and always will be in my book.
I don´t know why but some of the best live albums in rock & roll history were recorded in the late 70´s in a period of two or three years(Live & Dangerous, Live Bootleg, Kiss Alive, Bursting out, If you want blood you´ve got it, live in the heart of the city,Live at Budokan, Live Killers...all of them recorded in 1977-78-79)and UFO´s strangers in the night is not an exception. UFO was one of the finest bands of it´s time and Schenker(later reinventing himself in a fantastic solo career)was, along with you know who, probably the best guitarist in the business. I always do a particular ritual before going out on a saturday night. I sit in my sofa with a beer and listen Doctor, doctor and lights out twice before I meet my buddies. Believe me! Strangers in the night is the perfect way to start the weekend.
Hey buddy,
I just wanted to let you know that the new Micheal Schenker 2CD Anthology has a live version of On With The Action and 3 songs not on any UFO album.
Indeed one of the absolute best live albums ever. Even better than Rush's All the World's a Stage and Bring it Back Alive by the Outlaws. I wore this sucker out on vinyl!
as far as heavy metal, the best live album of all time. from the relentless energy that you can feel on every track, mogg's slick vocals and the master, mr. michael schenker shreading through one ufo classic after another. this album does'nt f... around with crowd interaction, it just smokes from track to another, let it roll and mother mary 2 of my fav's on this album. one question, where the hell is "on with the action" and why did they ever stop playing it live in the first place. i guess that's 2 questions
