    Excellent Must Buy

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 27, 2003

Generally, I wouldn't go for something that is "psychedelic" but once I heard Fools Gold, I was hooked. If you like rock music at all you need to get this album. An all time great.

    A revelation!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 3, 2002

I'd barely even heard of the Stone Roses before, but I chanced upon this album at the public library the other day and I decided to give it a listen. Right away the opener "I want to be adored" grabs your attention with its wonderful opening: industr...ial like tuned noises drowned in reverb, and then a slow buildup to the song itself. It's so catchy, I just can't get it out of my head right now. Another standout is "waterfall", which is nearly as catchy. "I am the resurrection" and "Fools Gold" both feature very cool instrumental endings that will really get your body moving. All in all an excellent album. Read more Less

To be short and ever so sweet (as was "The Roses" career).. This is the one album that displays the beautiful power of music its creative possibilities more than any other.

ONE OF THE BEST "BAGGY" ALBUMS

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 1, 2002

This album is and probably is their only best album. I wasn't old enough in 1989 to enjoy the baggy "Madchester" scene, but when the album was re-issued in '99 marking its 10th Anniversary, I enjoyed it. Every track on this is a gem from start to fin...ish and gets better and better the more I hear it. Tracks like "Waterfall" and "I Am The Resurrection" are amazing. This is in my top ten all time albums list. Read more Less

    A good debut

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 29, 2002

This aibum is good, athough some of the songs seem incomplete and cannot be considered as tracks in their own right ("I wanna be adored"). "Dont stop" is abit of a cheat because you can hardly consider it as a complete track. "I am the resurection"... and "waterfall" and "she bangs the drum" are good although at the end you really want more... Read more Less

    Terrific album!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 11, 2001

While an incredible album of consistantly great songs, the 80s production somewhat waters down gems like "Elephant Stone." "I Am the Resurrection" is a definite stand-out song.

    The Stone Roses

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 22, 2001

One of my all time favourite albums, THE STONE ROSES blend of dance-influenced 60's psychedelia became a cornerstone album for a generation. As a bright light that burned at the tailend of the worst decade in rock history, the Roses helped kick the i...ndie scene back into life, influencing the forthcoming 'Britpop' (crap term, but I'll use it) scene. I bought this album when I was a teenager and I still play it all the time - there is so much going on in the music that each spin you hear something new! I WANNA BE ADORED is possibly one of the most yearning, atmospheric and beautiful British rock songs ever written - just listen to John Squires guitar and Ian Browns superb dreamy vocals. WATERFALL is so brilliant that it even sounds good backwards!!! This is proved on DON'T STOP which basically is WATERFALL backwards, check out the spindly, jumping bass line at the tracks end. BYE BYE BADMAN and SUGAR SPUN SISTER are also extremely catchy tunes, MADE OF STONE incorporates faint traces of the blues into the (typically amazing) guitar solo, but best of all is THIS IS THE ONE which builds its way up from a muted beginning to a rushing, euphoric climax driven by the Mani/Reni rhythm section and drowned in a wash of electric guitar. I AM THE RESURRECTION is simply the fittingly triumphant ending to what the Roses probably knew already - that for a few years they were simply the best and important British band for ages. This is breathtaking stuff. It's hard to describe in words, though I've tried. Why don't you just go out and buy the millenium edition, if you don't already own it...you'll be blown away!
