It was supposed to be the start of a new era,a lush thrilling preview of what was to come...unfortantly it was the begining of the end.Bernard Butler, guitar extrodinaire ,and often misunderstood guitarist and songwriter, had just began to construct... some of the greatest songs of the 90's when his undeniable genius began to undermine his fellow bandmembers. He was soon to depart, but not before he left his mark...Fortunetly such works of art can be found on the 'STAY TOGETHER'EP.The eight minuite splendour of the title track sets the mood, but leaves the listener wondering how this can get any better...it does.Beauty is captured in music in the breathtaking 'THE LIVING DEAD' while in 'My Dark Star','Dolly' and the epic'Highrising' Andersons vocals leave the listener in an enchanted state of mind.I don't just recomend this record, I order you non believers to buy it,Buy it now, before its to late..Onwards Ye soilders. Although the chorus is the weakest of Suede's five singles to date, thanks to an ineffective falsetto backing vocal by Brett Anderson, a lush and lustful, pretty verse another instant tune from guitarist Bernard Butler, the big talent in the band and a dramatic bridge punctuated by uncharacteristic background touches in the form of horns and cello make "Stay Together" another fine outing. It's no departure from the LP material, and the rather overt Bowie/Smiths influences are still everywhere, but this is no treadingwater release either, particularly since the Bside "The Living Dead" brings the cello back to spruce up a gurgling acoustic track; similarly, the other Bside "My Dark Star" continues Suede's Smithslike tradition of highquality shimmerpop Bsides that often beat their lesser LPmaterial. Butler's guitar stabs like a throbbing tone underneath a tasteful lead in the vocalsless verse. Nice stuff, nice single, exceptional guitar work. - Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, All Music G...uide Read more Less

Biography

Suede

Suede kick-started the Brit-pop revolution of the '90s, bringing English indie pop/rock music away from the swirling layers of shoegazing and dance-pop fusions of Madchester, and reinstating such conventions of British pop as mystique and the three-minute single. Before the band had even released a single, the U.K. weekly music press was proclaiming them as the "Best Ne... Read more
